Not sure I can justify a new arena

If we were to build a new arena, it would need to be a greater revenue generator than Littlejohn
-Luxury Club Seating -Suites by courtside of mid level -Opportunities to generate more revenue from concerts, other shows, and sponsorship built into the arena.
If it is not for increase revenue and just for recruiting, we are better off keeping Littlejohn with minor renovations. I am not sure there is demand for the club seats/suites, but revenue would be the driver. Not sure if more concerts would come to Clemson over Bi-Lo Center either.

LJ sounds terrible for concerts atm

I don't know if this is just an attribute of LJ, the sound gear, or a sound engineering crew that isn't wonderful, but concerts at LJ tend to sound super tinny and pretty bad. It's been this way for at least ten years.
You can get away with this if you're a rapper, but for acts that actually have some vocal talent and musicianship, it really diminishes the experience. I have wondered if the crappy sound in LJ has been a factor in our concert slate being so... crappy.

A true dilemma

In my opinion, renovating Littlejohn would be a complete waste of money, but building a new arena would be very expensive with no guarantee that it would significantly help our moribund basketball program.
Given the two bad choices, I guess I would be in favor of building a new arena. At least that would give us more of a chance of developing a decent program and might help in attracting a quality coach in the future.

Not doing anything is not an option if we are serious about

basketball at Clemson and would be the worst choice of all. To not do anything would be an announcement to the whole world
"We have decided once and for all that basketball is not important at Clemson University, and have simply given up. Getting our brains beat in year-in, year-out and being a perennial laughing stock is perfectly acceptable to us here at Clemson. Thank you, and have a nice day."
But that's not going to happen. Look for a major upgrade or new arena announcement before the end of the year.

Littlejohn should have been torn down when the roof problem was discovered.

when you are planning to do one thing and have to do another it is very difficult. to stop a renovation, turn it to a demolition, and the construct would be a massive undertaking.
now should we have know going in about the roof is a different matter. my point is finding it mid project means your sort of messed up and have to make the best of the situation
