What do you think was the turning point in the game?

Nov 27, 2022, 7:37 PM

Mine is the old huddle up guess who has the ball. It fired up the gamecock players and gave their coaches a big boost in confidence. They were thinking look they think they have to use tricks to out score us. We have them we are in their head. Why did our coaches try that? Were they trying to show that we have great special teams. Fourteen pt lead just play football.

I can't remember when it was in the game exactly, but we had just slogged down the field and gotten a TD to take a decent lead back and then SC goes on a two play, 76 yard drive.

I think that that point they got the message that:
a) our offense was in trouble and
b) their offense could score on us as needed

In both of those moments (in the op and the one you mention) I thought Clemson was going to start to pull away but both times we did something dumb to let them right back into it

Honestly the 4th and 1 where the threw the bomb off the playaction felt like they had gained all the confidence and Clemson defense was frustrated and gassing.

And you could just see that was about to happen.

Just like the blocked punt at ND.

This can be a theme over the years. We get bored or something. We think we are going to do this trick play and blow the game out of the water. Instead, we should stick to what’s working and wear people down. We have the depth and stamina. Don’t get the silliness sometimes. It shows weakness.

I agree weownusc, that fumble and their quick TD after it was the turning point. We had a lot of momentum after the safety. We would of had great field position since they kicked off from the 20. I really felt we would scored again and had more momentum. That fumble was demoralizing.

When the 1600-lb family of 6 on our row told us our bolted-in stadium seats were too wide so it was our fault they had to sit partly in our seats. The day went downhill from there.

hopefully continue a drive to break their will. However, holding is called on Allen and we are back at the 1. Drive stalls, poor punt, and they get good field position to start a short drive to cut score to 14-7.

That was a missed opportunity to put them away IMO.
