Make or Break?

Make or Break?
Every year we hear how huge the Georgia-South Carolina game is.  We hear how the winner has a major advantage in the race to represent the SEC East in the SEC title game in Atlanta every December.  However, it hardly ever works out that way.  In fact, the winner of that game

No, it's not a make or break the season type game but it almost eliminates us from the playoffs. Another conference champ from the big five would have to lose two games for the ACC to get a one loss team in.

Not necessarily.

An early loss to UGA doesn't almost eliminate us. Using your scenario, for Clemson to get to 11-1 we'd have beaten FSU on the road, SCar at home, and at least two solid teams in Louisville and UNC. That's an attractive resume.

Losing to FSU but beating UGA and SCar is also an attractive resume that would be hard to overlook.

Beating FSU and UGA but losing to SCar would tank our chances. Unfortunately, the timing of losses is almost as important as who you lose to.

The timing is the human polls... I think a loss to SC putting at 11-1 and winning the ACC championship game to be 12-1 would be better than losing to FSU and going 11-1 to get into the playoff....
Conference champions will win the ties...

I would rather beat SC and go 10-2 than lose to them again and be 12 -1 ... .. but for the team it would be better to be 12-1 ..

I am not sure a late loss will be as much of a doom to getting into the playoff with the committee they are supposed to look at the body of work...
