You guys can make fun of coots all you want... and I'm right

Dec 2, 2013, 10:11 AM

there with you... but this notion that "we shouldn't lose to them b/c their coots" is crazy. They're a good football team. They're a physical football team. Spurrier has done a heck of a job there. Connor Shaw is a flat out gamer.

You can talk all you want about Columbia, fanbase, etc..., but they are bigger, stronger, and faster than us. They are coached well, and they absolutely benefit from being in the SEC.

For years, we were like, "it's not a rivalry"... well be careful what you wish for, b/c their program is pratty d@mn good now.

Now Dabo has to find a way to respond and get us to a level of play where we can compete with them.

Sorry, but it is what it is.

Dec 2, 2013, 10:12 AM

100% true, but they were very beatable Saturday night.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not gonna argue that... but good teams find ways to win...

Dec 2, 2013, 10:15 AM

they find ways to get turnovers... they have a swagger about them...

I don't care how beatable they were or how bad we played, they won the game.

They also bring the hat (hit) a lot more than we do (or so it seems)

Dec 2, 2013, 10:16 AM

Honestly, I think half of us wouldn't mind losing to a good team if their fans weren't the perfect combination of ignorant and arrogant. They're like a bunch of redneck lottery winners. Talking crap with #### they haven't earned.

I love generalized blanket statements.

All fan bases have fans that are "trash," as you say.

Ours, yours, mine, everyone's. Get over yourself.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They are not bigger, faster, stronger

Dec 2, 2013, 10:18 AM

that notion is plain dumb. You guys act like they just ran it up the middle for 400 yards and our weak, slow, small guys couldn't stop them.

Are they also bigger faster stronger than Auburn, LSU, and UGA?

How much they benefit from being in the SEC I don't know. Probably helps some for recruiting, obviously it helps with finances. Help with results? I doubt it. They've been in the SEC for 23 years and have been good for 5 years.

I agree with the rest. They are a VERY good team, and a VERY good program right now. They are also VERY well coached, and Connor Shaw is a terrific quarterback.

It sux losing to them but it's a game. One game. And people like to make these programmatic generalizations over 1 game. And doing so is lame.

Generally I respect your posts and opinion on here but think the bigger faster stronger argument is WAY off.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I disagree....

Dec 2, 2013, 10:23 AM

Especially the last 3 games.... I would say they are more aggressive than us. I think they fly to the ball better than us, and I think they bring more at the point of attack than we do...

Their receivers are flat out stronger and out-fought our DBs the last few games. Their secondary guys bring the wood too our backs and recievers.

That stuff adds up.

they have ~ 100 carries for < 3yds/carry in the last 2 years

Dec 2, 2013, 10:31 AM

there is nothing physically dominating about that stat except for clemson's front 7.

we gashed them in the running game, save our non-read option qb[square peg, round hole for tajh; i'll never get that]; why we continue to go away from the traditional running game needs to be answered.

we dropped 3 sure picks last year. i think what's frustrating most, is they are not the more gifted team, they are simply the better coached team.

ball on O.

i saw a show where the panelists wondered if a true spread team[clemson, oregon] would ever win consistently against the meat of the ncaa.

no one was willing to say 'no', but everyone agreed it's easier to upset what those teams do, therefore, they're more susceptible against more traditional teams.

you know the book, punish the skill, knock them off their timing...

it's coaching; it's a choice and spurrier's making it look easy.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don''t disagree with you....

Dec 2, 2013, 10:51 AM

I like Chad, but he's gonna have to make some changes...

Here are two great examples:

1. Spurrier has gone from his "fun n gun" to being succesful now running the ball and being more balanced.

2. Malzahan, will spread you out, they they are going to run it down your throat.

The kid in the orange jersey did not catch the ball. The ones in the garnet ones picked it up. Nothing magical or mystical about that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no need to go that far

Dec 2, 2013, 10:19 AM

There's no reason, and there hasn't been with maybe the exception of 2010, to say that they're "bigger, stronger, and faster than us." If you watched the game at all this year, at least, you'd see that the team that looked bigger, stronger, and faster didn't win. Clemson dominated the lines of scrimmage, moved the ball at will, and shut down their running game while giving up minimal yardage through the air. South Carolina had to resort to trick plays and QB draws to move it against Clemson.

Turnovers, specifically two turnovers off of punts that gave the ball to South Carolina deep on our side of the field, are what killed us. With the way Clemson was moving the ball and the timing of both of those turnovers, I don't think it's a stretch to say that those turnovers caused at least a 21 point swing (South Carolina doesn't get a chance to score those two easy TDs, and Clemson gets at least a touchdown out of it).

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We did some very good things... and this year it wasn't as

Dec 2, 2013, 10:24 AM

obvious... but I'm telling you, on the whole over the last few years...

They've been more physical at almost every position (not DL this year). Their receivers are stronger than our DBs. Their DBs are stronger than our receivers and backs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

that is silly...

Dec 2, 2013, 10:27 AM

Now you're just self flagellating. There's no need to make things sound worse than the already awful truth. At least the last couple of years, Clemson has clearly been the more talented team, but lack of execution (this year) and a bad game plan (last year) has cost us wins.

Ooooops, :) ESECPN actually showed someone else the same game that I watched. Turn overs, turn overs, turn overs, turn overs, made us look worse than we are twice this year. And they killed, killed, killed, killed us for the second time this year against two good teams. The senseless turn overs makes me believe our guys were intimidated by the Coots and FSU. And for me, that falls on leadership. Our guys played like they were scared they would lose.

In fact, if we had simply held on to the ball, Clemson would have won this one easily. Also, it does not hurt so bad to lose on the road to a good team. This game was lost primarily...

Dec 2, 2013, 1:00 PM

because of the turnovers and miscues at key points, but in the end we still couldn't contain Shaw. Inability to get the D off the field on 3rd down has been a constant against them. And mentally, I think we just lacked confidence down the stretch. A lot of that is probably due to the total collapse against FSU. When you lack confidence you make critical mistakes... like fumbling punts and throwing bad interceptions. I think the lack of confidence showed on the first drive with Morris... feeling like he needed trickery instead of just continuing to do what we had done on that drive. In other games at that point, Boyd would have dropped back and thrown a TD strike to Sammy or Martavis or Mike... but Morris felt the need for a trick play on the opening drive. Just my opinion, but I think that indicates a lack of confidence in our system. This WASN'T Alabama or FSU - it was a very beatable coot team who has more confidence in their strengths than we do. That's what really has to change IMO. From the coaches on down we need the confidence to make plays when it matters against quality teams. It was shattered against FSU and never regained. And it ### sure better be rebuilt if we are going to have any chance against Alabama.

I agree with you that we should not have the attitude that we should win just because "they are coots." However, I completely disagree with your comment that they are bigger, stronger and faster than us. That is simply false. We have been outcoached for the last five years and it is clear that the SC players want it more than our players. The talent level is pretty even between our 2 programs. Even with the disaster of 6 turnovers, time of possession being 18 minutes less than SC, and approximately 20 less offensive plays, our offense outgained SC by 60 yards. None of this makes me feel any better about the outcome, but talent is not the issue.
