Not blaming anyone for the loss last night

but when you don’t score a basket in 15 minutes with one of the best big men in the league, there is a problem. This team fell in love with the three point shot, early in the shot clock and forgot to work the ball inside. They must play inside first with kick outs for open shots. It was just throw up wild threes last night.

clog up the middle and force them to shoot outside and hope they're not making them and that was what he did last night. To be fair, we have been making a larger clip of those 3's in recent weeks than what we did last night. They were just cold. And made alot of bad passes out of pressure situations. We turned it over a ton last night.

We went 10 minutes without a basket against Florida State. Florida State is a mediocre team. Boston College is a bad team. Any decent coach would figure out how to score a basket in those situations.
And those two situations are not unique. We have a 4 to 6 minute drought in every game. This has been the hallmark of Brad Brownell teams at Clemson. The guy is a terrible coach. He has no idea how to run a half court offense.
There were times last night where we had all of our players outside of the three point line and even beyond the free throw line and they played tight man-to-man coverage. There wasn’t a defender within 15 feet of the basket. Not once did we have a player cut to the basket. Yet they back doored us repeatedly in the game.
Even our own announcers have been complaining about this if you listen to our games on the radio. They have been chastising the team for so many excessive unforced turnovers.
At least three times last night we got an offensive rebound and it was immediately stripped because our big guys were holding the ball around their waist standing still. I was taught not to do that in peewee basketball. You get the ball up above your head so they have to foul you to knock it out of your hands. I mean this is basketball 101 that you don’t hold the ball down low especially if you are a big man.
This team has poor fundamentals. Poor fundamentals means bad coaching. Scoring droughts in every game especially against bad teams is poor coaching.
We actually have some real talent on this team. It’s a pity it doesn’t have a competent coach.
And I don’t dislike Brad Brownell. I couldn’t care less about the man personally. I support all of our teams, all of our players, all of our coaches. But the man is not a good coach! This is not personal bias. It’s simple objective truth!

17 Turnovers and shooting 30% from the field doomed them. The Tigers turned the ball over 19 times at FSU, but shot over 50% and won the game. Giving away possessions and not shooting the ball well is no bueno. Tyson, Godfrey and Beadle all played well. Hall, Hunter, Schefflin just wasn't good. For the Tigers to be successful we need 2 of the big three to play well with contributions from a combination of the younger guys. That didn't happen last night. I am not with the camp the sky is falling though because of a bad shooting night. Play better Saturday at home and get a "W".

PJ made 25% of his shots from the floor last night.

We got it to him in the post, but many times he didn’t get good position. He turned it over out of the post some, and he missed some shots he normally makes.
I’m not blaming the loss on him, but since you brought him up it’s worth noting that he had opportunities and didn’t convert.

He shot 25% and we turned it over 19 times. If instead of turning it over 19 times we could have let him shoot it, then we win the game (assuming he maintained his 25% shooting percentage). 25% of 19 means a little more than 5 more shots in the basket which equals 10 more points on the scoreboard.

Someone said we went on a 7 minute stretch in the first half and 13 minutes in the 2nd half without scoring .. the games are 40 minutes correct, with 20 minute halves? If true, we went half a game without scoring at all. Am hopeful it was a one off .. BB needs to develop some plays, something…anything..

Refs weren't calling fouls which let their 7' guy mug PJ.
They should have tried something different when they realized throwing the ball into PJ wasn't working.

Their big guy sat with 4 fouls for 7-8 minutes in the second half. During that time we scored 4 points, all from the foul line. They only scored 5 points during that time so we missed our opportunity. We played good defense. Turnovers, missed layups, missed jumpers and missed 3 pointers on all but 2 of our possessions during that time. We were not moving the ball well and the shots were coming too early in the possession. This team shoots better off sustained ball movement and we just weren’t doing that. BC was harassing the guy with the ball and that really seems to cause us problems. They were slapping the ball out of our hands and tipping passes. They created a lot of turnovers that way. We did not protect the ball very well.

Agree. Any coach in their right man would have gone inside when their big man was sitting with 4 fouls. Very dissatisfied with the way Brad handled that part of it. His forner assistant used Brads defense to shut him down,

BLAME BROWNELL! All his fault! When your outside three point shooters are not hitting you gotta go inside! When their big guy Port went out with foul trouble in second half should have gone with a lineup of three bigs and two guards and just pound it inside on each possession. Even if you did not score each time the foul shots would have been there for the taking! This game was screaming for the bigs to go inside! Would have won by 15 I believe! But Brownell does not know how to structure an inside power game - lives and dies with the three ball!

BC made a great adjustment to their defensive plan at about the 10 minute mark of the first half. Clemson was having their way the first 8 to 9 minutes of the game, their defense started pressuring the ball and getting in to shooters, particularly in the post and it caused PJ some problems. BC played a great 30 minutes and deserved to win. The game was very physical, reminiscent of an old Big East game the way BC played.
