Not being South Carolina is important...

it's time to have some serious dialogue about who we want to be at Clemson. The national spotlight is on us for all of the right reasons and our brand is being showcased daily on a national stage.
That said, as I watched the Cawks and some of their usual antics - bird flipping, bottle and trash throwing, vulgar chant directed at Dabo, etc... I felt compelled to speak to what I see as a degradation in some areas of Clemson's elite, friendly culture.
Not sure when it started, but the students now chant "mother%#€£in'" between "O" and "N" in our fight song. Unacceptable.
Also, students doing the FSU tomahawk chop with the "bird" extended. Also unacceptable.
There are some other smaller examples, but much of this is coming from current students, who as teenagers, have grown up in a culture far more accepting of public vulgarity than previous generations.
This isn't what Clemson is about. It isn't what our coach is about and it isn't what our brand had been built on.
I hate South Carolina. Primarily because of how vulgar and redneck their fans are. As a former bowl staffer, I have seen games in about 30 stadiums. I have seen way worse / mostly in more northern stadiums. In the south, the worst are Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Not a group we should aspire to emulate.
Once we stoop to childish vulgarity, we lose, not what makes us great, but what makes us special.
It's not worth it. Cheer loud. Raise Cain. Don't act like them.
Go Tigers.

Are any under 30 yr. old Tigers who are guilty paying attention? The attention span of our 18 to 25 yr. old fans is quite limited! I would strongly recommend the university taking direct action with student organizations to put the word out that this type of behavior does not sit well with guests, recruits, older supporters and fans and especially the administration or conference.
Fans who find such unacceptable next season need to report it and then Clemson needs to set examples by removing such fans and making it very clear why the person(s) were taken out of their seats.
Go Tigers!

You aren't familiar with The Unhymnal, are you?

Clemson as a family friendly place is something new. Heck, I know several old cheers from The Unhymnal and my grandfather who attended Clemson in the 50s that would make your stomach churn if you think those chants are bad. Look up "The Twiddly T*** from Agnes Scott."

I spent most of the 90's as a CU student...92-98. Both of the things you take issue with were going on then. We somehow kept our family friendly reputation.
It's all good, breathe deep.

I agree! It is time people start calling people out for this vulgar behavior and let people know it is not funny and it is not acceptable.
