Not a conspiracy theorist. But phrases like… “deadliest school shooting this year.”

Should be punished as a crime. Heard that in a news clip. It’s not a ####### competition. These kids are the easiest population to influence and they are looking to the media for impetus. When you say that line that way, you’ve potentially propagated copy cats. So stupid.

Part of why you are loved.
But if you’re looking to trigger depressed kids, with potential psychopathic issues, that may struggle with how they are viewed by the world. I’d say, letting them know that not only is there time to beat this years record, but if you can’t do it this year… we are now ranking “deadliest” annually. So please resubmit your kill rate in the following years to comes. Please hurry as we are trying to print the label for the trophy.

And since the original post was about the media pushing the “kill count”, I could see a dystopian world where Ricky Bobby would lead that charge.

not very newsworthy
Chicago should have close to 800 murders this year. Chicago. One city.

Seems like a stretch

Not sure why someone would view that as a "competition". That's just stating a fact (if it is indeed true). And it seems like a relevant fact and in the interest of the public. Why would someone be "triggered" by that, anymore than they'd be "triggered" by any news on the shooting?

Not really....it's basic psychology.

It's the same reason that they have begun recommending not mentioning the shooter's names---it removes the motive a potential shooter might have for the infamy that comes from such an event.
Your logical issue here is that you're thinking like a non-psychopath.

Why people don't want facts said out loud.
The shooter's name has to be stated just like we state the name for everyone accused of any crime. That's for the public good and the rights of the accused.

It's not a universal truism that names are stated.

Minors are typically not named, and when the "greater good" is considered, victim's names in certain crimes are left out too.
I'm not saying the theory here is 100% foolproof, but if a big part of the allure of these crimes for many who commit them is the perceived fame, I got no problem with removing that reward after a token initial mention or two. It's not like it's going to be top secret for those who want to find out.

But those aren't really comparable

Victims names are left out to protect. There's not really any good evidence that mentioning a shooter's name leads to more shootings. There are a lot of reasons for the public good and, just for the sake of due process, the accused's name is made public.

Should the news not report how many people died? Too much "triggering" information?

Punish someone for a crime for... stating a fact?
I have some folks in P&R I'd like to introduce you to.
