So where is Clemson in linebacker U rank?

Mar 29, 2021, 12:23 AM

+I know we used to be in the top 10 the 80s but where are we now? Just trying to understand just how we stack up against UGA, Ohio State, and some others.

Anyone know or can point to rankings over last 3-5 years?

Since you mention the 80s:
Where did we rank for WRs back then?
Where did we rank for QBs?
How many National Title Games did we play in?

No? We are not "LBU" That title was PSU for decades; now who knows? LB spot has changed and evolved. NFL isn't looking for thumpers any more. Boulware would have been a stud in 1985, Skalski even in 1990. Now with the spread everywhere, LBs have to cover a ton more.

If I had to guess I would say top 10ish on LB school on avg with good/meh years fluctuating the number annually.

Our O skill positions have been tremendously improved over the last 5-7 years. Our D line has too.

The areas that have not kept up? O line, linebackers and and to some extent the D backs, but D backs have been a mixed bag.

However, you would think Coach V would have drawn in some serious, NFL worthy LB talent over the last 5 years.

Not saying he isn’t a great D coordinator. I’m just wondering why the LB position seems to be ok or serviceable, but not as excellent as say our wide receivers or our RBs? After all, LBs are the QBs of the D.

Simmons won the award for a best linebacker. Goodson is having good years in NFL. Anthony just couldn't get over the injury bug and tough situations in NFL. Coach V system has usually put talent in the right spot and called the right plays for them in the past. I think we are doing just fine. Look at the studs and depth we have now.
