Los Angeles chargers MISS playoffs due to calling time out

Jan 10, 2022, 12:33 AM

What dumb chickens

They were gonna snap with less than 40 seconds then run out the clock

Nope, I don’t think so

The TO was smart, and I think the announcers never understood why. That showed the Raiders that they couldn’t do what appeared to be their plan (run the ball to 4th down and try a very long kick as the clock expired) as it would’ve left time on the clock for the Raiders to potentially lose if The Chargers took their TO’s and the Raiders didn’t get the first down. Then the Raiders would’ve been left with a very long field goal and 30ish seconds on the clock. At that point they’d have to weigh kicking it, taking a knee, or a pooch punt. With that much time on the clock any kind of mess up gives the Chargers a chance to win and leave the Raiders out of the playoff. So, the Chargers take their TO after 2nd down and made the Raiders think more hardly about their plan.

The chargers are out of the playoffs because they couldn’t stop the Raiders on multiple third and short/medium plays on the final drive.

More hardly? They stopped thinking? They thought very little?
Either way apparently a lot happened after I went to sleep.

You don't try the long kick on 4th down because there's a small chance it's blocked or returned.

You kneel it.

Probably should have done that anyway.

That was somewhat my point

With any time on the clock, they almost assuredly don't try a crazy long field goal on 4th down.

But, I'll add to my previous post, that after rewatching the end sequence, the TO likely had nothing to do with time on the clock. The playclock was down to 5 seconds, and the Raiders were in shotgun and had run Renfrow in motion in and then back out. I think it likely the Chargers didn't like the formation they were in or wanted a chance to reset their coverage on such a crucial down;

No. Timeout had zero impact. Raiders were in shotgun

on 3rd down about to run a play and the play clock was already under 5 and game clock was already under 40.

So the timeout changed nothing. They were not kneeling it.

Then after the timeout, the literally ran it straight up the middle. Chargers just didn’t stop them. If they stop them, then the game likely ends in a tie because they may not attempt 56 yard fg.

That coach for the Chargers has no business as a HC. They lost that game due to coaching. That going for it on 4th down from their own 14 was idiotic as well.
