Nola Advice?

Dec 5, 2017, 11:15 AM

Starting a thread for NOLA advice. Best places to stay/eat/visit while in town? Advice for navigating on NYE, etc.? If you are from the area or have been, please educate us.

"IDIOT POSTER OF THE MONTH SO FAR...GWP-- You have won IPM Award for your failure to completely comprehend a clear post & then choose to attack someone who points out your ignorance. While you are not yet in the same No Class Catagory as deRoberts, ClemTiger117 & Tigerdug23, you are getting closer to the Sewer Dwellers." - coachmac

I was there for work from 1/1/2007 to 1/21/2007.

The local radio station gave the city's death toll each morning. When I left on the 21st I believe the toll was 23.

Do you need to know anything else?

Drago’s. Have roasted oysters that are according to my son, absolutely awesome. Little pricey and always crowded.

The crime is not that bad (especially in the tourist areas). I have lived here my whole life other than my years at Clemson, and I have never had an issue. Drago's in the Hilton is a good choice. Charbroiled oysters there are legendary. If you are willing to take a drive, go get a Fried Shrimp Po'Boy at Parkway bakery in Mid-City. Best sandwich in town. Also, hit one of the Brennan family of restaurants. Mr. B's, Commander's Palace, Palace Cafe, or Brennan's. And check out Mr John's or Desi Vega's for a good steak. For casual, try Walk-Ons. It started at LSU and is a great place to watch sporting events. Surprisingly good bar food.

The Aquarium is really nice. So is the D-Day musuem. All are right around the downtown hotel area.

Camellia Grill In Garden District is a terrific diner. Magazine Street has great restaurants and shops. Good area if town. Mardi Gras World is a great way to spend a morning viewing all the floats in production. Mothers Restaurant on Poydras is a local staple for breakfast and lunch. WWII Museum is one of finest in the world. And of course a Hurricane at Pat OBriens is essential

Wear cargo pants, fill all available pockets with weapons and pints of liquor, run while firing and throwing the liquor bottles as bait. Good Luck!

don't answer anyone who asks you where you got your shoes.

Stay in the Warehouse District.
Eat at Cochon Butcher, Peche, and Parkway Bakery.
Visit WWII Museum.
