pear salad. Pear salad was also a staple of all 60s and 70s Rock Hill School District 3 lunch trays.

I was a picky eater. Got my Mom to make mine with just pineapple ring and extra sharp cheddar cheese. Yummy.

In later years, I'd just consume a can of chunk pineapple with shredded extra sharp cheddar. Yummy. Icy cold treat with "natural" sugar. Yummy.

May have to go get some pineapple tonight.

Just guessing here, but stuff like this came from depression

Dec 8, 2021, 5:45 PM [ in reply to How did this become a thing? ]

Era babies who ate a lot of meatless starchy meals, so doing arranged stuff with “exotic” fruits was a bit of a celebration.

That makes sense. I have a similar jello and Mayo salad with my grandparents for the holidays. They are 98.

Grandpa always wants pinto beans and cornbread for his birthday, sometimes you can’t beat the taste of comfort. Sometimes he asks for vinegar pie, the depression variation of a lemon pie.
