Report: Kirby Smart “Very Interested” In Virginia Tech Job

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, who has been an assistant to Nick Saban since 2006, reportedly has interest in becoming Virginia Tech’s next head coach. According to USA Today’s Dan Wolken, Smart is “very interested” in the job, which will be vacant at the end of the 2015 after longtime coach Frank Beamer steps down.

I heard the same thing on the radio this morning. They also said that Chad Morris was interested. Looks like we will be hearing these rumors until next season with all of these coaching vacancies.

At the risk of being verbally attacked.....if Chad Morris leaves SMU after only one season he becomes the new "job wh0re" in the mold of Bobby Petrino. I will go out on a limb and say Petrino could jump ship on Louisville after this terrible season, he just doesn't care about loyalty and integrity.

The ACC Coastal is ripe for the picking and VT is a place where you can dominate that side of the conference for a long time. Much better than trying to follow Stevil at Coot U where at best you are the third best job in your division. VT should be able to pull a good hire and hopefully for the ACC they will. It remains to be seen in Miami will commit to being good again as a University.

VT already has one of the best DC's in the country. It would be major stupid for them to pursue another person just like that. Foster would be better IMO, if VT wants a DC to be their HC. They can't be that dumb. Oh wait...

he may not want to be promoted to the helm. I think given VT's offensive woes over the past few years, they probably need an offensive-minded coach or they need to make a huge hire at the OC position.
