What caused the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic to go away?

Aug 6, 2021, 8:11 PM

Was it lockdowns? No!

Was it wearing masks? No!

Was it social distancing? No!

Was it some quickly developed vaccine? No!

The fact is that it never went away. The flu (multiple “variants”) still attack us every year.

We just had to learn to live with it.

Covid isn’t “going away” either.

We will simply have to push through it.

Time we got started.

And don’t tell me I wouldn’t say that if I were old and vulnerable.

I’m 72 ... I AM Zold, and I AM “vulnerable” ... and I’m tired of running and hiding from something that isn’t going away no matter what we do.

And I’m tired of being told that I must for my own good and the good of others.

This is all bullsh#t!

We have a vaccine and quality masks now that help. There is no need to wing it for most of us.

Quality masks? Lol. People are walking around wearing a piece of cloth on their face and think they’re saving the world. Newsflash, that piece of cloth is worthless. So is a surgical mask for stopping covid.

We have the option of quality masks is the point. If someone wearing the wrong mask that is their issue. I also know someone who thinks if eats zinc supplements there is no need for him to get vaccinated.

Wrong. Where I work, we are required to wear cheap mask produced by my company. We are not allowed to substitute with personal masks, even N95 masks. So to say that people have a choice at this point is a very inaccurate statement.

But why does it have to be either-or? Get the vaccine, but also make sure your zinc and vitamin D levels are optimized, and have ivermectin available if you have a breakthrough infection.

The only ones remotely in danger from Covid now are those who refuse the vaccine.

It’s readily available for free to absolutely everyone in the USA who wants it.

Choosing not to take it is a personal decision on their part just like choosing not to go back to wearing a mask is a personal choice on my part.

I do too, I studied them carefully, as a retired Pathologist, and never liked the flu vaccine, as it is only 40% effective and the worst case of flu I had was after one, so I never took it again.
However, these vaccines have proven much higher effectiveness, and have been tried on 100s of millions recipients.

If these SHOTS (they do not even meet the CDC definition of a vaccine) worked, then why do people get reinfected? Why do they get enough viral load to be carriers and transmitters? Internationally, the number of reinfections in vaccinated people are increasing and the number of unvaccinated people are decreasing. They are now approximately equal. The Pfizer shot alone has already killed 3000+ reported by VAERS. A CDC insider has already testified that 45,000 people have died within the first 3 days after receiving the Pfizer shot. How many died within the first 2 weeks? Safe? Effective?

>Protect others who choose not to protect themselves.

First I will say I completely agree with your position. You took the precautions you deemed necessary to protect yourself.

Now, as an unvaccinated individual living in a house of completely unvaccinated individuals I will say that I 100% support your choice to not wear a mask. You are not protecting me by doing so. I made the decision not to vaccinate, not because I am an anti-vaxxer (I have received many vaccinations over the years and regularly get my flu shot; my kids are fully vaccinated as appropriate for their ages, etc.), but because the math didn't work out for me. I'm a middle-aged very healthy, very active individual with no pre-existing conditions. *If* I contract COVID I stand a 99.7% chance of surviving it. The vaccine will do what? Bump that from 99.7 to 99.8? And I have to get a booster shot every 6 months? It isn't going to prevent me from getting it and it's not going to prevent me from spreading it as we're now seeing from all the data coming out. The vaccine also does not have any data that proves its safety over a long period of time - 5 years or more. I have too many years ahead of me to be experimented on with this jab so I am accepting the risk of contracting the virus and living my life in the same manner as I did 2 years ago - without any fear.

All of that said, I did encourage my parents to vaccinate (which they did). Being older and having pre-existing conditions put them at higher risk so the long term unknowns are less of a concern than the knowns of what the virus could do to them.

Bingo...

It's a slippery slope. "Do this, and you can do that" ...that never ends well.

The goalposts keep moving and before you know it, you can't shop or work if you dont have the newest vaccine booster. Keep playing this game of complying.

Well, don't believe the government and CNN then, that's everyones personal right. I'll choose to believe the docs that use N95 masks to protect themselves during long shifts in Covid wards, even though they aren't 100% either, but best thing they have. I'll also choose to believe the docs on the vaccines as 97% of them have rolled up their sleeves and gotten the shot(s). Btw, in general, docs are very smart people when compared to the general stupid population IMHO.

As viruses mutate they become more transmissible but less severe. This is how they work.

Yes. Nobody has any idea what is going on. To live is to assume risk. The focus needs to be on personal health, but it is taboo to even make that part of the conversation. The virus is nowhere near as deadly as a very loud percentage of this country believe and an equally loud contingent refuse to view anything through a political non-partisan lense. We as citizens have let this happen. Politicians are scummy by nature. Why people put so much of their self identity in a political menu is beyond me.

But the trick is to let it kill us slowly so hospitals can keep up. That is literally the only reason we need to take precautions. Because if a hospital fills with covid patients, then people in car wrecks, heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and covid infected people who can't get treated all die as well. About 140,000 more Americans have died due to covid, not from covid. And full hospitals play a big role in that. Deferred surgeries, treatments, routine care, and the emergencies and injuries. All of us recieve worse Healthcare when the hospital is slammed. And that is a secondary death toll no one thinks about.

Re: What caused the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic to go away?

Aug 6, 2021, 8:58 PM

my grandfather died of polio before I was born. We did not even know the cause of influenza until 1930, people who caught the Spanish flu mostly died from Pneumonia, any vaccines at the time were completely useless against influenza. The Spanish flu's symptoms and onset were so severe, it was hard for the disease to travel, especially considering people were still riding horses to get around. it was allowed to piggyback all over Europe because of the war. It in fact killed more soldiers than combat over its 2-year surge.

mostly from the vaccine itself. It is almost gone.

I bring up polio and smallpox and then a very smart friend reminds me that animals didn’t carry those viruses. This virus will end up like the flu, with most people having some level of immunity from vaccine or infection. And like the flu, variants or new strains will appear that increase the yearly burden for a while. A lot more vaccine deniers are going to die before we get there, though.

Oh my, I bet your checking account is a mess.

The numbers that separate 4700k and 4.7 million is very vital in this. Actually just google China and 4700k COVID deaths. I got it off Reuters , so take it for what it’s worth. However, it will be confirmed on most who reported on it. I dont think you understand China do you? It’s kind of like a footprint for what we’re shooting for here , so I would become a little more familiar with it if I were u.

That was as of July 26th which was the last day the state run media was allowed access to the numbers from what I can tell.

And I also believe someone is having separation anxiety from Trump. Kind of like when a girl dumped a guy years ago and then he blames every other failed relationship on that girl. I’ll be honest, something tells me someone also actually tried the Lysol thing didn’t you. What scent did u use?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What caused the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic to go away?

Aug 7, 2021, 1:46 AM

Separation anxiety is an apt comparison since Trumple foreskin is an infant. However, your comparison of a prior relationship falls short; this was more like an arrange marriage in which at the last minute the parents find out the betrothed is into bestiality and puts the kibosh on the whole thing. The country is in a much better place but we’re still left with a former significant other that likes to phuque donkeys.

I can understand why you got the representation of the numerical value wrong; it’s because all you know how to do is parrot what you read online. You have no ability to think for yourself; you’ve spent so much time just repeating what you’ve read on far right websites that you are incapable of independent thought.

You obviously did not read the article.

Again, Modi's government is drastically underreporting. You have to take no further look than the picture above to know that. What's going on in the pic above is, those are bodies that have been illegally buried - and hence not reported - in one mass dump grave in one village the soft silt in the bank of the Ganges River there in India. There's massive reports everywhere of that kind of thing.

That's illegal, and hence, is unreported. The actual deaths are about ten times greater than reported, and that's starting to come out now. Modi's a populist and is trying to hide the true scale of just how bad stuff is over there from his own people. Because it was bad. Their "excess mortality" spiked to astounding levels during the pandemic.

Again, from Reuters.

Aug 6, 2021, 10:39 PM

it killed until it couldn’t kill any more.

At least not in those numbers. But, it still kills huge numbers every year. Because, it never went away. We had to live with it.

We developed vaccines to help us cope, but the flu is not ever going away.

And neither is Covid.

It’s killed a huge number of people, but all indications ( the science, if you will) show that the deadliest part is over and the vaccine is protecting those who take it from the more transmissible, yet far less virulent Delta Varient.

The only people with a remote chance of dying from Covid now are those who refuse the vaccine,

They’re making a conscious choice.

We who complied and were told to go on living our lives normally are understandably a bit miffed at being told now that we should sorta go back to square one.

The vaccinated are mostly safe. The unvaccinated probably are too to a large degree. They are taking a chance, but that’s in them.

The vaccinated have almost zero chance of dying from Covid from this point on.

That’s why me (and millions of others) are really upset that after taking the vaccine and wearing a mask for over a year, our leaders now think we may not have done enough.

Now we need to be concerned about the unvaccinated when everyone in the USA who wants a vaccination can get one easily.

This isn't 1918. This isn't influenza.

Aug 7, 2021, 8:05 AM

And this isn't a pandemic. A flu pandemic is when a single new flu strain emerges, we all get it, become immune, and it fades away. Think of this as influenza 2.0. At some point there was THE first flu strain. I imagine it was a pandemic. Then there was a second one. And a third. All pandemics. Eventually we saw all it had to offer and lived with it. Same process here.

But it's not a pandemic and it will not go away. Technically we're on our third covid pandemic in the US. When a new strain comes through that doesn't swamp hospitals then it's "over". But it will be around for generations. When hospitals go beyond capacity we have to take precautions.

So put on a mask for 2 months. It will go away. And you can take the mask off. Or if you get it you're safe for a while.

thus the amount of antibodies developed... My BIL was very sick, in the ICU for several touchy days, and received numerous plasma treatments... He recovered and was later retested. The doctor told him his antibody levels were the highest he'd seen. No way he should get a vaccine. He's never had one. It varies from patient to patient but he wishes he HAD gotten vaccinated prior. He came REAL close...

mRNA is produced by your body every day. It’s just a blueprint for protein formation. It denatures relatively quickly, which is why you get a second shot.

The proteins your body produces from this spike protein mRNA also denature rather quickly.

The immune response that is produced, if exaggerated can cause issues. Most of the deleterious reactions are due to this. This effect can linger.

You don’t have to worry about the shot lingering in your body. If aren’t one of the few individuals who get the “immune system reactions gone haywire” in the few weeks after the vaccine, you are fine.

Understand how this works and you can leave the worry to others.

Delta House here. Brother Bluto knew what he was talking about. Seven years of college is something to be reckoned with.

Are you vaccinated ?

Yes ... affirmative ... as stated many times in the thread.

The answer is yes. I AM vaccinated.

That’s why I refuse to go back to wearing a mask again to protect those when refuse the vaccine.

That’s the crux of the entire original post.

I did what was asked of me on all fronts for well over a year.

Now, since the top minds in the media, government, and health fields continue to change the rules, II will do what I think best personally.

I’m vaccinated so I’m not a threat to me or you. And if you’re unvaccinated, I don’t consider you a risk to me.

Might sound simple but I’m going with it.
