What if you use a piece of loaf bread to make a hot dog?

Kinda like when you make a peanut butter sandwich with just one piece of bread and fold it over. Does it become a sandwich then? If not, then it’s definitely the meat that excludes it from sandwich status. Let’s get to the bottom of this.

To use a Southern term that most of us will understand, I believe a sandwich requires loaf bread. On the question of one piece of bread folded over, that's a half a samich. Hot dogs, hamburgers, heros, not a samich.

A hero/sub/hoagie is absolutely a sandwich.

So I disagree that loaf bread is required for it to be a sandwich.
With that said, no way is a hot dog a sandwich.

If you ask anyone in America to define a sandwich
Jul 6, 2022, 12:17 AM

They would say two pieces of bread with something in between. Most people would say with meat between it.
Bread for hamburgers bread for sandwiches they’re all one piece of bread that is sliced into two pieces. A hotdog bun is one piece of bread that isn’t sliced all the way through. But most of the time when I buy buns, even the nice expensive Pepperidge farms with the sesame seeds, by the time I put everything in it and go to pick it up it’s breaking apart into two pieces.
By definition a hotdog is a sandwich.

Breaking your bun into 2 pieces doesn’t make a hotdog a sandwich.
The mental gymnastics in some of your poasts is impressive

A ghetto hot dog.

That’s what it’s become.
Serve it with some knock-off brand of Kool-Aid and some of those fake Oreos and you have yourself a low class after school meal.

Subway had to go woke, there fat guy turned skinny spokes person ended up being the pervert we all knew he was. And a hot dog is not a sandwich, you don’t put ketchup on sandwiches or Mayo on hot dogs. Case closed.

No mayo on a hotdog?

Tell that to the dudes that make Sonoran hotdogs and sell them by the hundreds.
This ought to be entertaining.

Mayo on a bacon wrapped fried hotdog, do you get a coupon to the local cardiologist office or some samples of cholesterol medicine? It’s not my thing, rather have a Chicago dog or a braut with mustard and onions.

Likely never will. It’s a border street food enjoyed by arguably more than a Chicago dog, but hey, to each their own.

I like your thinking but my mother used to serve us burgers on loaf bread. If so, was that a sandwich, or a burger? If a a sandwich, would ketchup be eschewed?

That’s a burger, we’ve all been there before made too many burgers or hot dogs and not enough buns and had to use loaf bread for it the next day. You don’t put ketchup on deli meats lol.

I do agree. Ketchup goes on warm to hot previously raw meats.

You found the loophole, I love a good leftover meatloaf sandwich, with ketchup and Mayo. Mustard now that’s a new one for me.
