I know. Just never know. He's in our top 25 (on paper) best ever guards we've signed. Guess it could be as simple as that... Getting called out, so he took his toys and went home. Who knows. Some kids run towards adversity, some run away from it.

I think the mistake is making the criticism public, I'm not saying you have to baby these guys, but the criticism has to be constructive.
Maybe some of it has to do with Dabo's frustrations too. This could be viewed as a veiled knock on Caldwell too.
Shoot, it was one play? I saw the Buffalo Bills, professional players, have 3 OL blocking 1 Jags player on a 4 man rush. The two tackles were 1 on 1 with DE's, leaving a free rusher (DT) with a straight line to the QB.
It happens.
If Paul T is transferring, it has to be a build up of issues in his mind, over time.

Clemson is currently the only P5 (and 1 of 3 FBS) that doesn't deal with Transfers INTO the program.
Hopefully that changes soon.

I may be over thinking things, but I get a feeling that with all these players leaving there is a problem inside the program that hasn't been there before. Also, it seems it is not being addressed or the players wouldn't still be leaving. Attrition is getting ridiculous and having small recruiting classes only ascorbates the problem!

Mid Season, that is true, but nobody is bringing in players during the season.
However, the issue is we're going to get younger each year. For the offensive line, that's a terrible place to be unless you're getting the best 5 offensive lineman each year out of HS.

Opposing possibility.
Maybe there is a problem with some of these guys and the losses have caused the coaches to realize that problems need to be addressed or they will build.
There could be lots of different problems including: poor work ethic, refusal to be coached, discipline (not guessing this for most players leaving), or just lack of talent.
Rather than take a look inside of themselves and improve their weaknesses, these guys are looking out the door instead.
You could be right about there being a problem in the program, but as long as the guys heading out the door are backups who seem to be mostly unhappy with their playing time, it's not something that I would give much thought to.
Regardless of why they are heading out, you are correct that the numbers must be balanced to get the roster back to where it needs to be.

Transfers are happening EVERYWHERE all the time.........the PROBLEM is Dabo's resistance to USING the portal to "backfill" positions..........you combine that with the "smallish" recruiting classes that we always have it becomes a big issue..........whether anybody wants to admit it or not, a PORTION of blame for this years issues can be attributed to Dabo's refusal to use the portal.........instead he makes up for transfers either in the next class (which screws us b/c we'll "always be young" if that continues) OR gives a walk-on a schollie and keeps him there.

They also see better players committing. You are part of the team, if not, good riddance. There is no one man band in football. DJ thought it was at one time but he got his eyes opened.
