I expected FSU to beat us so I was over that loss by the 2nd quarter. It's funny how you can't make a civil counterpoint about when the right time is for the offense to peak, so you concoct a juvenile psychoanalytical attack on me. Lame.

Only one team has scored more on FSU than Clemson did... FSU came in off a bye week and the entire game looked a step faster than us on both sides of the ball.... reminded me of the SC game last year.
Till someone scores at will on FSU, I think they are the best D in FBS?

Hey David, you can't have it both ways. You recently wrote an article in which you state the ACC must get stronger teams across the board to become more relevant in the national picture. Now you are asking if we would like GA Tech to stay mediocre with PJ and his lack of recruiting prowess since they are a cross divisional rival??

As for me, a stronger ACC is a good thing and will only make us better. Especially, in preparation for the BCS games we so desire to play in. There is a reason the SEC is very successful in bowl games. Not to mention, starting next year we will be vying for a coveted Top 4 BCS finish so we can make the "play-off".

Hoping the teams we play stay mediocre is just stupid.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I've never understood mentality that wants every

Nov 16, 2013, 9:17 AM

competitor to loose every game. It's a fair emotion but lacks much rational thought.

A stronger ACC not only helps economically, but it also is key in stopping the erosion of better and best players in the region to the SEC. Don't have stats handy, but it seems like SEC team recruiting on the whole has been on a steady rise without pulling much from outside the traditional 'region' (MD south to FL and west to LA?).

But that's another reason I like the expansion of the ACC into KY, PA, NY, and MA. While those areas may not be as rich in top players, there are still many to recruit. Just look at RB Andre Williams (BC). Wouldn't we really like to have had him on our team for the last 4 years, for example? He's from PA. And playing in the ACC still gives "nothern" athletes a chance to be seen closer to home from time to time with games a Cuse, BC, Pitt and maybe even Louisville. Not so much the SEC or Bigs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We don't want the ACC to be weak, but there are also

Nov 16, 2013, 9:25 AM

certain teams that we would benefit from them staying mediocre. Namely teams that we recruit against. GT is in one of our major recruiting areas, and while UGA and even Auburn are bigger threats to land a lot of those kids, it's still beneficial to us to have one less significant school to compete against.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: We don't want the ACC to be weak, but there are also

Nov 16, 2013, 9:51 AM

Totally disagree. If you look at our recruiting the past several years (especially with Dabo) we are largely competing with Bama, LSU, TN, S. Carolina, UGA, VA Tech, the Tarheel state schools, and Fla St. I don't think GA Tech being a better team will impact our recruiting in anyway.

Contrary to popular belief, kids largely pick schools for numerous reasons other than win/loss record. Facilities, education, coaching staff, playing time, campus/atmosphere, and national exposure are the biggest. Proof of that is Auburn, who won 3 games last year and had a great recruiting class (took Carl Lawson from us after we beat LSU). AND we have an advantage on most teams in those areas, as our recruiting success under Dabo has proved.

Also, beating a mediocre team with better players by 35 every time does not help us in the BCS poll when compared to other top teams. Remember, perception does matter because the Coaches poll and Harris poll are huge factors.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I see that point. But I'd much rather be competing with

Nov 16, 2013, 10:04 AM [ in reply to We don't want the ACC to be weak, but there are also ]

and losing a few top recruits to ACC schools than SEC schools, too. I guess it's one of those situations where there isn't an obvious side that is best.

The SEC built its king of the hill image through recruits and playing well outside of the conference. We can argue about how that happened and all the underhanded things we can prove or imagine. But the road to compete for the ACC is the same. The more the ACC squares up well against the SEC the better for recruiting in the South. And it helps in the "new" regions too.
