Seeing T_I_P’s post about your men’s tennis match

Feb 4, 2022, 8:30 PM

today got me thinking about the sport and the national rankings. Tough one for the Tigers today as they lose to SC. But the SEC has 7 of the top 15 teams in the nation, so pretty tough matchups.

Between the PAC12 and SEC, they seem to have a lock on the National Champion and/or runner up most years. Although the ACC sneaks Virginia, UNC or Wake in the final sometimes.

SEC won last year with Florida

Feb 4, 2022, 9:18 PM

But the most recent one before that was 2008 with Georgia. ACC and pac 12 dominate. As southern cal has 5, Virginia 4 and Wake 1 since then. (Texas also 1). ACC and Pac 12 also have more runner ups in that span with UNC, UCLA etc.

SEC fans always think one great year indicates a trend.

Something about the inevitability of all their network contract money lifting them to an elevated position in the athletic landscape. There is some truth there, but they forget that for years across all athletics the Big Ten and CA schools had huge budgets compared to the rest of the country. Yet other schools were somehow able to field competitive programs and in some sports built dynasties.

Money goes a long way, but it won't buy championships.

title or been runner up 19 times (including an ALL SEC final once). That’s not one great year. 7 of the top 15 are SEC schools NOW. Nice try, but it ain’t a one year thing… just like football, softball, baseball, wbb, gymnastics… better hope the SEC doesn’t get better in mbb. Oh, wait…

Florida was the first school from the SEC not named Georgia

To win a national title in men’s tennis.

Either Stanford or Southern Cal won every title from 1988-1998

If you want to pay for conference on the back for runners up during the pac 12 domination California domination era. Go ahead. Only Georgia has real men’s tennis legacy as a “blue blood”.

And as far as softball, the SEC has been fairly underwhelming in national titles compared to how much the rankings prop the conference up. Only 3 ever. 1 for Bama and 2 for Florida and none since 2015.

Also only 1 women’s basketball since the Tennessee dynasty fell away since 2008.

Sit down

Mama is just like DAWG, narcissistic. Mama, where were you when we were defeating Bama in football. Now you see why everyone dislikes anything SEC.
