Nick Shuessler

Apr 18, 2014, 1:55 PM

What does everyone think he brings to the table. I think he is a very good guy first off, but looking back at the spring game he really stepped up. He has a lot of poise in the pocket. Matter of fact, I was talking to a guy last night who believes we should still consider redshirting Watson. I told him you can't go into the season with just Stoud and Nick. He thinks we should start with a redshirt and only take it off of him if there is an injury. What you guys think?

Also, looking back at the tension between Kelly and the coaches, with about 5:30 left in the first quarter Shuessler was put in and I saw Kelly saying something to Dabo on the sideline. Dabo was coming back at him, not in a bad way, but taking his stance against him verbally. I saw this by reviewing the game on DVR. I think Kelly just couldn't keep his mouth closed.

Nick - use him like they used Cole for last 3 years - RS De

barring injury. Nick is very similar qb to Cole, and can be adequate back-up who will grow like Cole did...

I was impressed with Nick's poise and with how quickly he picked up the offense! However i just cant wait to see what Deshaun can do!

Strongly agree

Shuessler performed similarly in last year's spring game. He was a scholarship QB at a vaunted SEC school. He is not the afterthought that people assume him to be.

He looked good LAST YEAR in the spring game

I had never heard of him but told my pal that the kid was not that bad. We may get a chance to see!

A nice chianti? So it would at least have to be Classico or maybe even reserva?

I agree with him. Playing Watson a few series against SC State and Georgia St isn't worth blowing a chance to give him a redshirt year. I'd play Stoudt & Shuessler and only play Watson if one of them gets a significant injury.

Waston will not redshirt. He is the best qb onthe team and will get experience or even win the starting job during the year. The eeason way kelly committed yesterday I bet was because he was told waston would not redshirt.

Barring injury, there's no way Watson redshirts this year.

Apr 18, 2014, 2:59 PM

He will play, at the very least, to get experience for next year, when he will be "The Man" without question. I think Scheussler is better than a lot of people think, and would be a capable back-up.

I hope

he is a worthy backup so we can redshirt Deshaun. If we do then I think we don't call many run plays for Cole to keep him healthy but it'll help tremendously in the long run especially because of how deep our backfield is. My wish list is Cole starts whole season. Nick a backup. Deshaun redshirt.

If we had another QB to give the defense a solid look on the scout team, that would be fine. But due to numbers Watson essentially has to be prepared to play this year. Two QBs will have to be prepared every week during practice running Chad's offense and game planning for the opponent. The third QB has to run the scout team. If we decide to redshirt Watson, he has to run the scout team. That means he won't be learning our offense this year. He'll be running our opponents' offenses.

There is no way that the staff is going to have next year's starter go into next season with only a couple of weeks of spring practice this year, spring practice next year, and fall camp as his chance to be groomed running our offense.

Watson has to be prepared as the second QB this year for not only as Cole's backup, but for 2015 as well. Running the scout team isn't going to do much for him in terms of being ready to go next season.
