Nimmer moving on to U.S. Open Final Qualifying

May 9, 2022, 3:37 PM

It looks like Bryson Nimmer is advancing to the next round of U.S. Open qualifying. He finished T2 and the top five are moving on to the final round of qualifying on either May 23 or June 6.

That course must have been absolutely brutal. You don't

even get accepted for a QUALIFIER unless your handicap index is 1.4 or less. Or you are a Pro. Three guys in that qualifier field shot OVER 90!

I think some guys were fudging on their handicap ..... at least when they turn in scores to determine their handicap. A legit 1.4 handicapper is not going to shoot 90 on that course!

my golf goal when younger was to play in a qualifier even knowing full well I wouldn't advance. I once played a few holes with a major championship winner in a business outing. He said once he had to qualify again and remember tour guys go to the final part of qualifying that he wouldnt do it ever again. It was too tough and too nerve racking

You should check out Peter Jacobsen's old golf book,

"Buried Lies" sometime. He describes what it was like going through the PGA Tour Qualifying School yearly tournament in Brownsville, Texas. You can tell, even reliving it just to put it in print was scary for him.

Oh, by the way, there was a friend of Jacobsen's named Curtis Strange who failed to get his Tour card that year by one shot at the Q School. Wonder whatever happened to that guy?

Doh! I just realized we had another Tiger advance from this same event. Andrew Swanson is a freshman golfer at Clemson. He finished T2 along with Bryson and will be moving on to the Final Qualifying round as well!
