I am wondering if Dabo will go pro once all his sons graduate.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whatever Coach Swinney does......

Jan 22, 2019, 1:24 PM

....and whenever he does it, about 100,000 of us need to show up at the party in Death Valley thrown to thank and honor Dabo for everything he's given to Clemson University and every member of the Clemson family, past and present.

Like everyone else, I hope Dabo Swinney lives a long joy filled life and that he calls that little house he just built close to Clemson home forever.

Go Tigers!!

Dabo's outlook on life

Jan 22, 2019, 1:25 PM [ in reply to Re: An article on Swinney replacing Saban - how unlikely it is ]

Transcends football. It's a holistic perspective and effort. For me, I can't see that translating to the narcissistic world of pro ball. In fact, I'd submit Dabo does more for pro ball by the molding of men by he and his staff...and other like-minded coaches across the country who share and/or emulate his approach. Essentially, he enriches both collegiate and professional ball.

Re: Dabo's outlook on life

Very well stated Salty. And agree that Dabo can accomplish more by molding young men.

Still U can see a satiated Dabo pursuing the NFL as a challenge or mission, at a time he considers a departure point, as more and more opportunities present themselves. I say this because at some point it’s hard to stay in the same place in life and continue to grow. And Dabo loves a challenge.

As more and more of his Clemson players spread out across the NFL, Dabo could hear more of a calling. With his sons in college and high school, hopefully, this crossroads is 5-6 or more years in the future. Dabo is not your typical football coach as you know well. I have a feeling Dabo will become as known for his philanthropy as much as his coaching.

Dabo doesn’t deal with primadonnas.

Jan 22, 2019, 6:11 PM [ in reply to Dabo's outlook on life ]

He would never be able to enforce his standards on guys who are getting paid millions. While I agree that Dabo loves a good challenge he has to have the right people to work with. He’s always said that money is not what drives him either. I personally think he stays at Clemson until he is ready to get out of coaching.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd say if he leaves Clemson it will be for the NFL.........

Jan 22, 2019, 1:29 PM [ in reply to Re: An article on Swinney replacing Saban - how unlikely it is ]

just don't see him leaving for Bama or another college job.

Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job

Jan 22, 2019, 1:40 PM

Go ahead...list your reasons why Bama would be a no-go for Dabo.

#1 Never follow in the footsteps of a legend

Jan 22, 2019, 1:50 PM

If you are your own legend already then it's a dumb idea to follow the big shoes of the in-house legend.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

#2 Unrealistic expectations of Bama fans

Jan 22, 2019, 1:52 PM [ in reply to Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job ]

Expectation that every year to be in the CFP or else hot seat. While it's a great goal it shouldn't instantly get you on the hot seat.

#3 Bama will not let Dabo do things the "Dabo way"

Jan 22, 2019, 1:53 PM [ in reply to Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job ]

They want it the Bama way and there's not negotiation on this point.

Re: #3 Bama will not let Dabo do things the "Dabo way"

Jan 22, 2019, 2:15 PM

What exactly is the Bama way?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not the Dabo way...or did you think he did things the same?***

#4 "Not Invented Here" (NIH)

Jan 22, 2019, 1:57 PM [ in reply to Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job ]

Believe it or not there are a lot of folks who live off of NIH. Sometimes it's nice to be the "first" in various categories. At Bama there is no originality....everything has been invented, created or done there already. Not much room to do/create something new.

Re: Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job

Jan 22, 2019, 1:59 PM [ in reply to Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job ]

He worked for Bama once before and they Fired him, why would he want to go back.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah I would say he'd take a smaller job.....

Jan 22, 2019, 2:03 PM [ in reply to Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job ]

To Bring a True No-Name to prominence before going to Alabama or the NFL. Both of the later are huge pressure cookers with essentially nowhere to go but down. His youthful hype might also be a no-go in the professional trenches of the NFL. I have no data to back that up, but he seems built to inspire at the collegiate level.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also, after seeing his divine take on why Clemson.......

Jan 22, 2019, 2:06 PM

I knew he was full of the faith, but the 10 minute interview on why he believes God lead him to Clemson means it WILL take another divine event to make him leave.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mostly because they hung...

Jan 22, 2019, 2:05 PM [ in reply to Better questions are why wouldn't he take a Bama job ]

Dabo and Kathleen out to dry for several years by hiring him three times firing him twice and once the guy who hired him fired him before he stepped into the job in lieu of hiring sons to take Dabo's place.

Everyone in the Bama administration told Dabo to hang on, wait, the job was coming. He called everyone he knew and all of them provided hope only to quit taking his phone calls later on and failing to even return his letters. Basically, they wounded him deeply. His friend there burn the bridge between Dabo and Bama and from how he told Finebaum on an appearance on the PF show the scars from the wounds not only remain, they remain sensitive.

Imo, it was like the betrayal of a brother or sister, someone so close they could hurt you more than anyone else.

I really wish people wouldn't bring this up. It makes me angry to think about it. I hate Alabama for how they treated him. I can't imagine a family turning their backs on one of their own.

Those fools think Dabo is a Bama man, I lol. Dabo is ALL IN but it's not with Bama.

Is there a link for where that is documented?

Jan 22, 2019, 2:14 PM

I'd like to read more about it.

Re: Mostly because they hung...

Jan 22, 2019, 2:18 PM [ in reply to Mostly because they hung... ]

I haven't heard any of that before, and Dabo certainly doesn't appear to hold anything against Bama from what I've seen. I'm not saying he'd go there, but he seems to obviously still love it there, and was just a couple years ago where he answered "never say never" when asked about it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo? bored?

Jan 22, 2019, 1:55 PM

That's like saying a rock might float.

lol

I always like to ask Bama fans if they remembered firing Dabo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Next time...

Jan 22, 2019, 2:09 PM

'Do you remember firing Dabo three times and leaving him standing in the lurch two years waiting on Bama's promised call?'

Ask them if they remember Saban trying to hire Dabo a week before CJ Spiller signed with us too? Then tell them Dabo isn't a chickenchit like Nick and refuse to leave his team at such a critical time.

Then tell them I said #### you.

Re: Next time...

Jan 22, 2019, 2:22 PM

How was he fired 3 times? He was a GA there from 93-95, and the receivers coach from 96-2000 when he was let go along with the entire staff when the head coach was fired.

but they are bama fans, you have to keep it simple and try not to get into advanced mathematics such as counting to 3

Re: An article on Swinney replacing Saban - how unlikely it is

Jan 22, 2019, 2:09 PM

You should "never say never" but .........

I think it highly unlikely that Dabo will leave in the near future, and when and if he does leave, it is unlikely to be take a job with a big rival (and, if it isn't already, then i suspect Clem/Bama will be a big rivalry over the next decade of Championship games)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think he'd be more likely to do mission work full-time

Jan 22, 2019, 2:11 PM

before he'd go to Bama or the NFL. But I think he sees coaching young men as his own personal mission work.

Re: An article on Swinney replacing Saban - how unlikely it is

Jan 22, 2019, 2:12 PM

Dabo seems to be very happy at Clemson, and he has reached the top of the mountain. His challenge now is staying there, and I think he will. I believe that he is ours to lose, and that could only happen if the current environment ever changes. As long as our BOT, president, and AD maintains its current support, I think Dabo will remain our coach and turn out championship teams. I think that he realizes that following Saban at Bama would be a huge mistake.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

as long as Saban doesn’t replace Dabo

Jan 22, 2019, 6:21 PM

Should he leave

Imagine that turn of events

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo is all about money and ego

Jan 22, 2019, 6:24 PM

he couldn't care less about the kids he recruits. When momma calls with the big fat check, he's gone. - signed a coot
