New Story: One night in Charlotte: The oranges aren't enough

One night in Charlotte: The oranges aren't enough

It was a wonderful night in Charlotte, a night that ended with an ACC Championship and a perfect 13-0 record. It was a night that ended with oranges being thrown onto the field, but the message from the players was clear - the oranges aren't enough. Photo by ACC Full Story »

Twas a fun night in the Queen City, indeed!

I was home 45 minutes after the game was over... and 25 of those were spent walking from my seats to my car!

I agree it was special, and I don't believe this season will end without the tigers winning the their next championship. I think they have what it takes to run the table, but they must play with an edge on out.
GO TIGERS!!!!!

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.

Just when I thought I'd been through all the emotions... the hope, the frustration, the anger, then, finally the joy and the tears... my tigers had brought it home... and the pride I felt was not something I could define.

I saw my first Clemson football game in 1956 when I was 7 years old. Before the game, my Dad took me up to Fike Fieldhouse to look at the trophies in the lobby. As we were looking at the Orange Bowl Trophy, Coach Frank Howard walked up behind me and said, "Boy, are you going to come up here and play football for me?" Of course, I was speechless... my Dad said, "Coach, we're gonna try to get him here."

I was too small for football (a 170 lb nose tackle in high school... don't think so!), but I've been an avid Tiger supporter for the past 59 years. I suffered through the thin times and cheered for my Tigers. I started Clemson in 1967, and cheered for my Tigers. Good times, and bad times. Then in 1981, I saw my Tigers win the National Championship... something I never thought I'd see in my lifetime.

And now, I see my Tigers poised to do it again... maybe this year... maybe next year as well.

Thanks David for turning the clock back for me. And thanks for bringing tears (sobs) to my eyes and heart once again. I can honestly say to all who ask, if you've never experienced "Clemson"... well... I don't have words to express it. All I can say is "Where the Blue Ridge yawns its greatness..." If you've been there, you know what I mean. I you haven't, then I could never explain it to you...

You and Nikki truly touch my heart with your writing... THANK YOU...
