This fill two months of downtime, get real. It's college baseball. There may be a few people who live in the area and can make it to games that want to talk about this, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a short term issue.

You accomplished much during your tenure. That being said, it is time for some new blood; thank you D Rad for pulling the trigger on such a major decision.

Jack- I didn't always agree with the way you did things, but I will say that you did a lot for Clemson and took this program to places it has never been. It was exciting at times and heartbreaking at others. Thank you for the time you invested in these young men and the hours you sacrificed away from your own family. In time, I feel you will be properly remembered and honored.

Thanks for everything you have done Coach Leggett good luck wherever you end up.

Jack has represented Clemson very well over the years. I hate to see anyone who's been successful to lose their job, but in coaching, that's just a fact of life. Thanks Jack for all that you have done for Clemson Nation and for mentoring your ballplayers and helping them become professionals at the next level and leaders throughout the community. Hope the rest of your career/life are as good as it's been at Clemson. You have your legacy that will always be CLEMSON!

Thanks for your service Jack

Jun 4, 2015, 12:00 PM

While I have very mixed feelings about this, I feel that regardless of opinions of the decision that is made everyone should join in thanking Jack for many great years of service. I hope that the next coach can build upon the legacy that Wilheim and then Jack built.

Great coach. Unfortunately our bullpen over the last few years did him in. Wish him the best.

The bullpen sure made a lot of errors and base running mistakes.

Want to thank Jack Leggett

Jun 4, 2015, 12:05 PM

I tried out as a walk-on my freshman year. Had high hopes and dreamed of playing in the majors. I was sent home after the first round of cuts. I went to JL, who was an assistant at the time, and asked him what I should work on for next year. He responded without hesitation, "Everything." It may have seemed cruel, but it was what I needed at the time. He didn't waste my time sugar coating it and telling me that I could have made the team if I try harder next time. He was telling me to move on with my life. So I did. Graduated with a Computer Engineering degree, eventually with an MBA, worked for some great companies and great projects. I've had a good career, thanks in part to Coach Leggett.

Re: Want to thank Jack Leggett

Jun 4, 2015, 12:15 PM

And that, is just an example of why Jack got fired. While you could appreciate his brand of candor, many took him for an a$$. After a while of this "candor" no one seems to want to stand in your corner with you when times get tough. Times got tough and Jack turned around and had no one taking his back. Good coach but a blunt tool for a personality.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

His teams played well (for the most part), he won a lot, and

Jun 4, 2015, 1:26 PM

his players loved him...and they're the ones that have his back today.

Athletes (and I'm guessing you're not one) appreciate being spoken to honestly and directly. A coach doesn't stay 24 years at a place because he can't get along with people; he stays there because he has success and he treats people fairly, even if "fairly" sometimes means speaking (GASP!) harshly to people who need to hear the truth.

You should probably avoid speaking on this issue anymore.

Re: His teams played well (for the most part), he won a lot, and

Jun 4, 2015, 3:47 PM

Intelligent people (and I'm guessing you are not one) know that if you treat boosters and fans like ####, eventually you are going to be canned if you don't win.

You...try to avoid intelligent conversation in the future.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Eventually? Like two and a half decades? Like a quarter

Jun 4, 2015, 7:56 PM

of a century? Please. Jack is leaving because the team stalled out recently. It's got ZERO to do with how he treats people. If he had made maybe one more super regional, certainly a CWS, in the last few years, he'd be going nowhere.

And thank you for your weak attempt at imitating my post. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

So once again...thanks for playing, but it's time for you to move on.

If it wouldn't have been for the big talk last year between Jack and DRad with the changes DRad had expected from Jack, I would have been shocked. We saw no changes this season plus, Jack again lashes back out at the fans again this year. Truthfully, I expected it, and I'm just glad DRad didn't do a mid or toward end of season firing. Personally I hope that no AD at Clemson never does another mid season firing. TB firing set us back for sure 3 long years IMO with catching back up with depth on both sides of the FB....

Thanks for your service Coach Leggett. Not a happy ending and I am sure one that was difficult to make. Now time to move on and find the best replacement we can. I hope there's a good one in mind in the on deck circle.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My 2 cents on the matter

Jun 4, 2015, 1:45 PM

I'll admit, I was 1 of the ones that felt that JL's time was drawing to a close, but at the end of the day, news like this is still a stunner.

Despite being one of the ones that felt change was needed, I also want to be one of the ones to thank Coach Leggett for his service to Clemson. Yes, our past several seasons weren't up to the standard that fans have for the program, but he was a reason that we have those expectations for Tiger baseball year in and year out. 22 years - 2 ACC Championships, 2 Atlantic Division championships, 3 ACC regular season championships, 11 regional titles, 4 super regional titles, and 6 CWS appearances. National players of the year, major leaguers, All-Americans, All-ACC, etc...all things he should be recognized for. Wish things had ended better at the end, but that's the way the business is & I for one can say I don't envy DRad one bit b/c this was a tough decision to make.

So once again, thank you once Coach Jack Leggett for all you did as a coach and representative for Clemson. Best of luck & hope that one day you're able to come back to Tigertown and be properly honored for all you did.

And to the next coach, I hope you're able to live up to the tradition and expectation of Clemson Tiger baseball.

While I appreciate all the successes Jack has guided our Baseball Program through, I believe it was a little past time for a change. I wish Jack and his family the best life has to offer, and at the same time I want us to get a new coach who can take us back to prominence.

Does anybody think that DRad has been in contact with some coaches already. I think that he has atleast put some feelers out there to get some feed back.
