Is this map accurate?

Oct 3, 2014, 11:19 AM

Mainly for Greenville county.

You can tell it's not accurate by looking at...

Oct 3, 2014, 11:24 AM

...Miami. The U would be a pin dot on top of the city. Miami doesn't even care about Miami football.

It shows about 25% are Clemson fans ... in Clemson. You decide!

No

45% Clemson fans for 29630 and 29631. The article says it's based on Facebook likes.

Facebook? What's that? I don't use it either....

I rarely hit like for anything on FB. So does this mean all the coots just like anything and everything about Scar?

Also if a Clemson fan hits like for the story about Missouri winning last week does this researcher assume they're a Scar fan?

I hope the gov't didn't pay for this research?

The win-loss record against the Coots isn't even right on there. I wouldn't read much into this.

The most telling item i see for inaccuracy is that in many counties in and around Chapel Hill it doesn't even list North Carolina in its percentages!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that was the first thing I noticed

I can also attest that the coots are not the favorite in center Charlotte...this area is more Tarheel than anything.

There are many more pockets of Clemson supporters. I dare say the pee Dee region is one of those areas, orangeburg/Calhoun county areas are huge, Richland/Lexington county areas as well. And let's not forget about Charleston/hilton head areas too.

Re: Is this map accurate?

I would say no. But overall in SC (except for the Golden Corner, of course) it is true that on a county by county basis S.Car fans do have the majority.

That being said, even in places like Lexington and Aiken counties the skew is much less than 10% Tigers to 60% Gamecocks... more reasonable in those counties would be 28% Tigers to 58% G.Cocks.

S.Car's regional system also helps them gain fans across the state as well. For example, USC Aiken kids are actually "Pacers" but if you ask them who they root for it's always the G.Cocks because they consider themselves S.Car students by proxy.

Can we remove C.ocks from the blocked word list. It's the name our rivals self apply.

Give me a break. It's not even that vulgar of a word.

My senior year of high school, '03 at Lexington High School,

Oct 3, 2014, 11:59 AM

there was a bulletin board in the cafeteria for seniors to put where they had been accepted to/where they were going to college.

Midlands Tech had a lot, USuC had a few, but Clemson had the most.

And that's right in the middle of gamecock country. I read somewhere that Lexington County had the highest number of IPTAY members outside of Greenville. Charleston County was third on that list.

(and lol at the Ohio State fans in Horry County. No surprise there.)

I thought the zips that had Alabama as their third team were funny too. Because of all their success, unless somebody went to Alabama I just assume bandwagon fan.

The map definitely has some flaws. Look at the state of North Carolina, not one county has UNC in its top 3? I mean I hate the tarheels but there is no way that is correct.
