Give him the respect he deserves.
Or maybe you forgot about Tommy West?

In my opinion he was a fraud, and was here five years too long. The fact that he got one thin dime from Clemson after he was relieved of duty is a travesty.
If he were a real head coach at this level, he'd have a coaching job today instead of being an "analyst" on that rinky-dinky, plastic banana show he's on.

new facilities you see today would have never been here either. He came in after this place was left pretty much in shambles and convinced the admin and alum to spend some major money and decide whether they wanted to be a player in Football or not. Now you can argue whether he's a good game day coach all day if you want, but he did turn the tide for this program. I don't understand the hatred for CTB.

Bc he takes swipes at us all the time and clearly has a problem with Dabo. He is a jealous, infantile loser, and a poser.

I agree. What he said was not wrong. Any time any school is playing a top 10 ranked team, they "better bring their A game." If #1 is playing #10, then number 1 had still better bring its A game.

I Was as harsh on CTB as anyone. The sight if him squatting on a sideline when things were not perfect left me with a gnawing in my gut that we were bound to lose at that point. However, he usually beat SC. When he started getting actual players he beat fsu. But he lost to Wake. Unacceptable. Was horrible in decent bowls. Still, correct me if I'm wrong by all means, but didn't he actually recommend that Dabo take over the Team? That was actually a bit of a suprise to most of the nation as Scott was there, prior HC, and the DC, Koenning was actually pretty decent. Tommy put CU on the path. He deserves a lot of credit as well as a lot of blame. I personally think he would make a very good athletic director somewhere. He's good with people, is a good man, and has fundraising capability. I don't know if he could ever Fire anyone, but he is not without a lot of good qualities.

Recruiting under Bowden

I guess I have to remind you that Dabo was the recruiting coordinator that got CJ to sign a business card promising he'd take an official visit to CU. nm

1,000,000 TUs if I could. The CTB hate is stupidity in rare form.

I'd rather have a head coach who focuses on football games..

not facilities. That should be the job of an athletic director. The ONLY thing that Tommy Bowden did that I have any respect for is recruiting some great players like Davis and Spiller, Jacoby Ford, and others. If he and his staff had been able to get the potential out of those players, Clemson would have won the ACC championship 2-3 times in the early 2000's.
Real football coaches don't get fired mid-season. As a recruiter, Bowden could sell it. As a coach, he stinks. STINKS.
FRAUD.

I don't know why you feel it necessary to hammer me with such prejudice. I just told the truth about Bowden, and I'll tell the truth about anyone else as I see it. Plenty of other people see it the same way. For his part in expediting upgrades to our football facilities, I am thankful. But I believe he would have been more effective in getting that done if he had made the most out of the talent he recruited instead of wallowing in mediocrity for ten years. He's a salesman; that wasn't enough. It was a travesty that it took ten years to get rid of him. And yes, he hired Dabo, which at the time didn't show any sign of having the impact on the program that it has had. Bowden also hired Rob Spence, and Dabo's first act as coach was to fire Rob Spence.
I think that Dabo and staff are doing a great job, and I think Dabo has the ability to make decisions on coaching, staffing and recruiting that will allow us to continue to grow the football program. He has proven it, and I give him the credit he is due.
If you and attheesso want to worship Tommy Bowden for doing the job of a development director instead of a coach, fine... whatever floats your boat man. If Bowden had developed the talent he recruited, won games and grown the program, then those great recruits he got wouldn't have been squandered and we would have gotten the facilities AND the wins. Do you REALLY believe that Tommy Bowden was the only person with the vision to see that Clemson needed to keep up on the facilities front? Seriously? I don't believe that.
C.J. Spiller, James Davis, Gaines Adams, Charlie Whitehurst, Justin Miller, Derrick Hamilton, Leroy Hill, Jacoby Ford, Byron Maxwell, Michael Palmer, Aaron Kelly... I could go on and on. All that talent over ten years, and Bowden was fired MID-SEASON!!! Doesn't seem like the great facilities were ever going to do him any good. That isn't only true for football.

You have a short memory or weren't familiar with the program at that time, but we weren't landing any recruits before he got the commitment for facilities from the admin. As I said, his game day coaching you can fault him for but he didn't have a lot of the resources we have now.

I'm trying to understand a couple things here
Sep 29, 2015, 12:53 PM
|
|
1. How is Dabo Bowden's daddy?
2. Why is it a bad thing to say Clemson needs to bring its A game against a top 10 team?
