Neighbor Fence, tree protocol
Apr 4, 2022, 8:52 PM
|
|
Before I mention it to my neighbor.
They have a fence and a tree/bush that goes thru and over the fence in my yard.
I don't care, except Its growing so much over, I can't now my grass.
Is it ok for me to cut the branches coming over?

And they don't dare say a thing. If they did I would kindly explain what I was doing, and to EAD.

attorney" but I think you can cut the branches that overhang your property. If you kill the tree you could have liability, but that isn't likely.
We currently have two peach and two apple trees that hang over the fence. We told the neighbors they could keep all the fruit on their side if they left the trees alone, which they're happy with. But the joke's on them: squirrels get all the fruit before any of us humans can get it. I grow peaches and buy them from California.

Less grass to cut. And here you are wanting more grass to cut?
I guess I would just mention it, hey, I'm gonna trim this tree so it's easier for me to cut my grass.

mowing altogether and let the yard become a rat-infested jungle. Maybe throw food waste, trash, and any large junk items you have out into the yard and create a pest paradise and an unbearable eyesore for the neighbor. Eventually, they will get fed up with living next to this and move. While the house is vacant before the next neighbor moves in, you can go next door and cut the tree down, and only then can you begin to restore your own yard to its former glory. It's really nothing more than a waiting game and only requires your steadfast patience to ultimately win this epic battle of wills.

Previous owners of my new home let their yard go for nearly 20 years over three previous owners. It was in bad shape. I'm talking trees in planters in the middle of the back yard. Overgrown trees blocking nearly all of the sun for over half of the yard. Hollys that havent been trimmed in probably a decade. Covered it all up with straw and reduced the grassed area of the yard to about a stretch of 40'x10'.
So I moved in, started tearing it all up. Trimming it back. Planted grass. My neighbor is an absolute drag in regards to everything. Since day one, not joking here, day one, hes been bitching to me about my yard, telling me how terrible it is, pointing out issues EVERY single time we cross paths. His wife works in some sort of marketing/IT role at SAS and supposedly has a law degree. So every single time he mentions trimming back tree limbs, he always says, "oh, I know what I can legally do and what you legally cannot tell me not to do." ###### sick story bro, cut what you want, it ain't that bad. I gave him permission to take down a limb a few weeks back, and when my wife and I were taking RulezJr on a walk, he stopped cutting and started shouting at my wife saying, "I can legally do this and Rulez gave me permission!" Nobody cares. Stop being such a ####### loser.
His wife was on nextdoor two weeks ago threatening to trap outdoor cats and rehome them. We are talking absolutely crazy people. He is getting his house painted this week or next and he gave me a heads up about maybe keeping our cars out of the driveway on one side of the house to avoid any errant paint being picked up by the wind. I appreciated that... but then he goes to tell me, "I didn't hire some bum crew off the back of a truck like the previous owners that owned your home did when they replaced the roof. Their crew snuck over to my property to smoke weed and I had to yell at the previous homewoner to manage their project better." Again, sick ######' story bro.
Anyway, I have been working all spring on the yard, and I would like to think that its come along nicely.

Its insane that such a small backyard can get out of control

and that no one wanted to do a thing about it. I have put out six yards of mulch in the front (and finished it off) and back. I still have another three to four yards to go. Complete overhaul of the backyard beds from years of mulch and straw and neglect. Did the same #### at my old house.
Six months and theres been a lot of improvement and everyone can see it... except my neighbor.

"I'm getting older and my back isn't as strong as it used to be, but I can still dig a six-foot-deep hole and manage to haul a few bags of lime from the truck to the hole."
I think I'd rather have crabs than neighbors.

I recommend you inform them of the issue and ask if they'd like to come over and trim them back or if they prefer you do it. I have a bush which grows through my fence and I think nothing of going to the other side of the fence and trimming it because, imo, it is my responsibility.

to have when my new neighbors show up. We have an oak tree that is right on the chain link fence. Trunk is fully on my side but they have 2 huge branches on their side. Never came up with the people that sold the house, hoping the new people are cool.
