Are Miami and Nebraska permanently GONE as football

Nov 13, 2021, 10:58 AM

powers? It certainly seems so. In Miami's case especially, with no onsite football stadium, and no plans for one, I don't see how they generate any enthusiasm going forward.

And, changes in the game itself have neutered Nebraska. Them big, slow, corn fed Nebraska farm boys were great at blocking for the triple option, but not so much for modern offenses. Same on defense. Speed is the key to great defense these days.

Speed was also why FSU dominated the ACC for years when they first joined. I remember it seemed like our guys had their feet stuck in buckets of cement when trying to run down some of those speed burners.

I put them in the category with Texas. They are always back until about 3 games in to the season

Miami will be back. Location and money will keep them a force. At some point they will have somebody there to put things together. Nebraska is most likely gone. It is tough to sell your history (which is about all Nebraska has to sell) when kids weren't alive during your hey day.

Nebraska yes, Miami no

Nebraska lost TX. recruiting base when it went to Big 10. It’s not a destination location and today’s recruits care nothing about their tradition. They are a lot closer to going the way of Kansas than ever getting back. Sure they could catch lightning in a bottle with an innovative coach but it’s not sustainable long term.

The U, with an on campus stadium could put itself back in the mix, but I do think Atl. Has surpassed south Fla. as the most fertile recruiting ground.

Miami has won 5 national championships since 1983. Nebraska has won 5 NCs, 3 since the 80s. Even Texas with 4 in the 60s and 70s won a national championship in 2005. So since these now struggling former powerhouses have won national championships since UGA (2 NCs - 1942, 1980), does that make UGA a former powerhouse, a powerhouse wanna be, or only ever had powerhouse potential with all the recruiting talent over the years? Asking for our dawg friends.

Glad they have had patience with Frost. Nebraska is close.
