ND/UGA Talk

Sep 11, 2017, 11:24 AM

Had several friends that went to ND this weekend for the UGA game. They were saying 30%-40% of the stadium was red. Kudos to Dawg nation for traveling but how does Notre Dame not get called out for this?

No way is Clemson or UGA or FSU or TN ever filled with that many opposing fans.

I get that the UGA fan base is starved for a big win and hasn't been to a top bowl game in years. I get that Notre Dame has students from all over the country and scatter after college. But to have that many tickets on the secondary market is crazy. The same thing happens to Georgia Tech but no one considers them a die hard fan base like Notre Dame.

My only guess is that a lot of fans only make a few big games a year, sell the others and didn't consider UGA a big game?

UGA fans were paying top dollar. When buyers are willing to pay that much, more tickets will be offered up. I don't see why anyone would fault another for selling.

The demand for opposing fans to visit ND is larger than any other team in CFB. Sure fans want to see their team play in big games, but even casual observers want to visit ND. You tie that with a UGA fan base that travels and suddenly all the third party tickets are purchased by opposing fans no matter the price. My guess is some ND fans saw ticket prices rise and decided to pay off the season with one game.

30-40%? Clemson will have double that in 2020***

Unless they were five years old or younger, most of those fans would probably never get to see Georgia play in that stadium again in their lifetime.

I know Jawja travels well but,

30%-40% red in the stands? I would say some Jawja fan is exaggerating just a tad.

From the pictures I saw that's pretty accurate.

I don't know, it seems reasonable

Seems pretty reasonable from some of the photos that are circulating.

Wouldn't you pay top dollar to see that 5* QB Jake Fromm? He is the messiah & will lead UGA back to days of glory. Just ask any UGA fan. They will tell you. Fromm is exactly why I take recruiting rankings with a grain of salt. He defines mediocre. So does Eason. Lot of excitement after beating a team that went 4-8 last year. I still contend they will not win the SEC East this year, as lousy as it is. Time will tell.

Well, you sure fit your username.

Time will tell indeed. And you may be right.

But here's a tip for you. As a GT fan, don't ever criticize another school's fan support. You don't have the room to talk.

I really shouldn't criticize UGA & their fans. The trailer parks I have been by recently are proudly displaying their UGA bulldog flags after the big victory in South Bend. Callers are flooding the sports talk stations here in Atlanta lauding the revival of UGA football. Not many grammatically correct sentences mind you, but still much passion. Just a matter of time until they are national champions again. 5* QBs will certainly do that for a program.

You are correct

They are rabid for success. The bravado will grow each passing week until inevitably Lucy pulls the football.

Much like Dabo did, the first thing Smart has to do is beat the teams he's supposed to beat.

I live in Western Michigan and went to the game with my best friend who is a UGA grad. These numbers are legit. It was actually pretty impressive. Red everywhere on campus and in the stadium. I was also surprised by the ND tailgating scene. Not bad for a northern team.

Can't wait for our fans to do the same thing in a couple of years, that will be fun!
