I’m not an oval guy but those guys doing 220-230+ mph in open wheel cars for 200 laps is a definite spectacle. Will be more action than Monaco.

It’s like having Wimbledon and the US open on the same day though. Just fantastic.

It’s too bad Alonso’s strategists wasted a pit stop putting him on the mediums. He would have been within a second or so (possibly ahead or behind) when Max pitted for inters, and we would have had a helluva race for 1st.

Alsonso isn’t catching Max if both are on slicks. By pitting first for slicks with a potential rain variable in play, one of two things happen: 1) Max has the luxury of staying out another lap or two to confirm that slicks are the way to go, maybe losing at most a second a lap to Alonso, and then pitting for hards with the gap comfortably covered, or 2) Max stays out a lap or two and sees that inters are the way to go, making Alsonso even more of a non-factor.

#2 is exactly what happened, and there was pretty much no chance of Alonso winning because of that gamble.

In that scenario, with Alonso on hards and Max on dying mediums and possible harder rain coming, you make Max choose first. Maybe he chooses slicks and you can try inters, or maybe he takes inters and you think slicks are still the way to go, either way you make him choose first. The undercut in that scenario was just terrible strategy.
