A Season for Change for the U of SCAR..........long

Jun 23, 2019, 1:16 PM

With the season’s change into the lazy days of summer, I feel it is time to explore an important topic. Namely, that of our feather friends and their chosen embarrassment of a mascot. Let us accept the premise that the chickens of U of SCAR have no real traditions to speak of. Yes, we all know they love to boo their team, throw objects from the stands, leave early and commit disrespectful actions in their parking lot; but, other than these generic low class traditions, they are devoid of any originality. In 2011, the Bleacher Report even named the U of SCAR gamecock as the 3rd worst mascot in all of college football.

So, I propose we come together as fellow sports fans intent on helping our feathered friends choose a more fearsome or appropriate mascot. I propose the following for consideration:
1. The squirrel. It is prettier than a chicken, can run away from opponents faster than a chicken and represents their AD and BOT with some of the squirrely and hair brained decisions they have made.
2. The lunatic. This is definitely a much more frightening mascot than a chicken. It well represents U of SCAR during their steroid scandal in the late 1980s. As Wikipedia states: “"The Nightmare of Steroids “was featured in the October 24, 1988 issue of Sports Illustrated. The article begins with Tommy Chaikin, a defensive lineman on the University of South Carolina (U of SCAR now) football team, vividly narrating his steroid-induced experiences the day before the annual South Carolina-Clemson football game in 1987. In his own words, Chaikin describes himself sitting in his dorm room on the USC campus with a loaded handgun pressed to his chin. “Chaikin alleges that half the USC football team was using steroids.” In addition, the The South Carolina Lunatic Asylum was authorized by state legislation in 1821. It sits a mere 2 miles from the U of SCAR campus. Think of all that shared heritage! I feel any team would be afraid of playing a raving steroid hyped lunatic.
3. Finally, the felons of the Broad River Correctional Institute are a pretty frightening bunch. Just think how the “Fighting Felons of U of SCAR” would sound?
I bet with any of these proposals for a new mascot, the U of SCAR could raise their overall record from .513 to perhaps a stellar .515 within a few years. Perhaps they could even one day beat Virginia n a repeat of the Belk Bowl. The sky is the limit with a new mascot. Any other ideas?

New mascot, "The Tailgate Sexter."

All images of it would be NSFW.

to the Cockroaches in honor of their stadium. They wouldn't even have buy new stuff, just stencil "roaches" on everything that they've already got.

Many years ago it was said there was an institution at both ends of Bull Street in Columbia. Only one required a certificate of improvement before leaving and it was located on the north end.
