My Wishlist for starting Defensive lineup.
Jan 27, 2014, 8:52 AM
|
|
(disclaimer: my WISHLIST, not what I expect to happen)
DE - Vic Beasley / Ebo Ogundeko DT - Carlos Watkins/DJ Reader DT - Grady Jarret DE - Corey Crawford / Shaq Lawson
WLB - Tony Steward/Ben Boulware MLB - Stephone Anthony SLB - Burrell/Travis Blanks* (Nickel*)
CB - Makenzie Alexander CB - Garry Peters/Martin Jenkins FS - Jayron Kearse SS - Korrin Wiggins/Robert Smith
This IMO would put the best on the field.

Now that Peters is getting older I'm worried about him going soft on us

I'd like to see Kellen Jones start at one of the LB spots

To me, he seems like our most athletic LB outside of Anthony.
I also think Tankersly will be a huge contributor next year in the secondary. As a freshman this year, he was probably our best special teams player. I think he's going to end up being a really good one for us.

Interesting to see no mention of Deshawn Williams or Josh Watson. IMO I'd swap Watkins for Williams and slot Watson behind Jarret and pull Watkins in occasionally. There's a lot of depth at DT.
For the most part, I'd agree with your lineup but I'd also like to see Kellen Jones in there somewhere, Blanks should start at safety ahead of Kearse, and Wiggins should be our NB.

I think Watkins and Reader in their 3rd year are better

than those two... (assuming Watkins picks up where he left off). Watson has regressed...

Out of curiosity, what are you judging Watkins on? Missed most of last year after a car accident. Williams is a very underrated DT, in my opinion.

He had it cleaned up in the offseason, and should look better next season.

While Kearse had his mistakes Last year I still like him over Blanks at the safety spot. He seems to get to the ball a bit faster and takes better angles. He just needs to be a bit more disciplined.

I think Marcus Edmond by mid season will be starting opposite of MA. Kid had a good spring but depth gave them ability to redshirt him.

Both he and Baker are fast guys but both came in at under 180lbs this year I believe.
