my thoughts on this newspring/noble thing

Sep 5, 2012, 7:03 PM

like most discussions involving religion, it has descended into an argument about who's religious view is correct and who's is wrong. That is the wrong argument. What concerns me is not that a player was baptized, but where it occured. How can you argue that the team doesn't favor one religion/denomination over another yet they are performing religious ceremonies ON THE FIELD. Again, I have no problem with players being as vocal as they want about their beliefs off the field, but when you bring it on the field, you are dividing the team and marginalizing those of a different faith. That may not be the intent, but it is the result.

I was rather strange having it as a part of practice

We don't really know what tone was set by the coaches, though. Practice was supposedly over, so they could have very clearly stated anyone who wants to is free to leave. Even if they weren't believers they may have just wanted to support their team mate.

also wonder to what extent this "good chritian man" bit, begun by bowden, and apparently perfected by dabo, is just one more recruiting tool. if so, it's a shame.

there has been some. It's no secret the south is very religious, as are blacks, esp black kids parents & grandparents. Other schools and the media have made an issue of it.

It doesn't matter in this neck of the woods.

Sep 5, 2012, 7:15 PM

You are either a right wing southern baptist republican voting confederate flag waving KJV reading only Christian or you're going straight to a devil's hell.

Doesn't matter what the rest of us believe, how we live or feel in our hearts.

Couldn't be less true

Sep 5, 2012, 7:20 PM

As way of evidence I offer you the very story you are commenting on.

Newspring may be many things, but hardly a "right wing southern baptist KJV reading only" fellowship.

No, it's a church

Sep 5, 2012, 7:37 PM

I can't attest to it's theology, but I do know it isn't particularly right wing, has zero affiliation with Southern Baptist, and it totally isn't KJV only.
