My takeaways from Clem/GT

Aug 30, 2019, 1:44 AM

Of course, there are the obvious things, but here a few things I noticed/enjoyed from the game.
1) TL has a hand howitzer - Rolling left, he threw the ball 60 yards off his back foot. The most amazing incomplete pass ever!
2) ETN 90 yrd run- Most exciting thing to me was Jackson Carman's pancake block. Great Block
3) Chase Brice could start at 85% of schools in CFB
4) Simmons was a man possessed. Especially in the first quarter.
5) Feaster saw the writing on the wall. 2-5 all looked good.
6) When your starting QB has maybe the worst game of his career and you win by 38....We too deep.
7) 13 different players with a reception....we too deep
8) Missed Hunter Renfrow. Found myself looking for him every 3rd down.
9) Young defense is going to be good. Got to work on wrapping up
10) Tlaw is sneaky fast. Good sneaks and took a great angle of the td saving tackle.

Great season opener! Go Tigers

A) Jaeylan Lay is going to be a STUD

B) Overton isn’t close to being as effective in the slot as Hunter

Ngata could be the Slot guy we need.

I think NGATA or Amari could play the slot and be the SURE HANDS we need like Hunter was. #13 needs to be more sure handed - that's a Tiger tradition going back to Adam Humphries.

Chase Brice was 5/7 with a td, but should have been 6/7 with 2 td's. That one pass was right on the money and dropped.

Technically, 7/7 with 3 TDs

Spector dropped a gimme right in his hands due to lack of concentration. The other incompletion hit Powell right in the hands in the end zone. He tried to slow down to shield the DB and then turn it on at the last second to create separation, when all he needed to do was maintain speed and catch it over the shoulder. Brice had dropped it in perfectly.

Dude was on last night. His only two incompletions hit his receivers in the hands in the end zone!

I missed the balloons.
The only thing that bothered me was at times we looked sluggish on offense, and I would have loved seeing Trevor throwing downfield more. The first quarter I thought I was watching a Rob Spence offense.
No problems with the "D", however.

I think you will find your wish next saturday.

we didn't even get to page 3 of the playbook last night.

#9 -my biggest concern with the D was a lot of missed tackles. There will be lots of fundamental tackling drills at the next practice.

Not sure if this one game was a good representation, but we appear to have a stout running game with a very good O-line.
