The SEC reminds me a lot of NASCAR…

20 years ago NASCAR was the hottest thing going. A rabid, regional fan base. Venues in close proximity to one another. Sold out events. Drivers who genuinely didn’t like each other. Off the charts TV ratings. NASCAR was “it”!
All of this led to greed. Outside influences started moving in, coming up with ways to make even more money, and NASCAR took the bait and swallowed the hook. Closing down tracks, reducing the number of races at traditional tracks, building new tracks outside of the historical footprint, catering to new fans, making all the cars the same, changing race formats, etc… In short, abandoning their true fan base. Now NASCAR is in free fall. Ratings have tanked, attendance is so bad NASCAR quit posting numbers, and the old school fan, long since abandoned, has lost interest.
The SEC is in the process of doing the exact same thing. Outside forces have spotted an opportunity to make money and are taking advantage of the SEC, and the SEC has taken the bait. Reducing the number of games played between historic rivals, taking on new teams from outside the historical footprint, catering to new fans, trying to change the playoff format, etc… in short, abandoning their true fan base. Maybe it’s because they are hiring commissioners from NY, who may be great businessmen, but don’t truly understand what it what it is to have college football in your blood from birth in the South? Maybe it’s because they have been taken by the silver tongued TV executives. The answer isn’t clear.
I just hope that the SEC can correct themselves before the inevitable free fall, but judging by the actions of their current commissioner, I think it’s clear money is now the primary objective, not football, and certainly not the traditional SEC football fan.

The only fans that the Coots have are Clemson fans- hoping the coots are good enough to not pull down our SOS for another year!

I've thought this about college football in general. Not just the SEC.

The Alliance will form a super force and save the day!
Seriously, I think it all blows up in their face. Clemson will always get their high character VHTs and so will the other big schools outside that cesspool of a conference. With NIL, athletes are going to more schools they wouldn’t have before.
I think as far as the overall damage the SEC does to college football, it’s temporary.

You lost me at "Reducing the games played between historic rival's" ?? What makes you think they will do that? Sounds more like the ACC with their crazy mixed up divisions between the Old ACC and Big East.
Way I see it the SEC is adding to their great border rivalry inventory to market to TV by adding teams like Texas. (Texas-Texas A&M, Texas-OU, Texas- Arkansas- a good one back in the day)

They already have done it…

and it’s mathematically impossible for all of the traditional matchups to be played on an annual basis.
Not counting the intra conference teams who don’t play each other annually… Texas/Arkansas Texas A&M/Texas Clemson/SC (2020) UGA/GT (2020) Missouri/Kansas etc…

There is a LOT more wrong with college football than what

the idiots in the sec are doing.
College football is driving away long-time fans and it isn't doing anything to replace them with new fans . . . the younger folks are like - What's so great about this ? Tik Tok is better.

will be in the SEC within the next two years. They’ve started down this slippery slope and there appears to be no turning back at this point.
