My prediction

Jan 4, 2020, 2:25 PM

I have seen the wild predictions of the trolls. They have no basis for their outlandish score prediction, and continue to say we have not played anyone, so we lose. Info that my prediction is based on:

Clemson has beaten 8 power five teams with 6 wins or more. Nobody has scored more than 23 points against Clemson.

LSU has also beaten 8 power 5 teams with 6 wins or more. Six teams have scored more than 23 points against LSU (and before you say that LSU has gotten better defensively this season, half of those 6 teams that scored more than 23, happened in the last 6 games).

LSU's offense is no better than Alabama' offense last year, or Ohio St's offense this year (Alabama had a 47.7 - 16.2 average last season before the championship game; Ohio st had a 48.7 - 12.5 average this season before Clemson game). LSU's defense is MUCH worse than those two teams.

Clemson this season: Pts for 634, avg 45.3; points against 161, avg 11.5

LSU this season: Pts for 684, avg 48.9; points against 303, avg 21.6

If you average the points for and against (Clemson's scored added to LSU's give up, and divided by 2, and likewise for LSU), Clemson wins 33 to 30

To get the Ohio St points scored, I halved their average (based on them not seeing a defense like ours) and it gave a total of 24 (they scored 23). Using that method for LSU would give them 25 points scored. Clemson scored 29 points on OSU, which was better than twice of their season average, against a better defense than LSU.

If Clemson scores twice the average of LSU, that is 43 points. If LSU scores half their average that is 25 points. That leaves Clemson winning by 43 - 25, which seems like a pretty good score.

But, just to make it a closer game, if you take the 33 - 30 score, and average the 43 - 25 score, then you get my prediction for the game:

Good Tigers 38, bad tigers 27

Kudos to anyone that read all of this! Goooo Clemson!!!!!

Which one? I will look at it...Did not go back to all of the posts this morning, I got stuck on the trolls and what they said, so just went ahead and gave mine.

I see a lot of numbers about scoring averages and being divided by 2, or the number of wins vs the power conferences but I don't see any stats for, you know, things like time of possession, starting field position, penalties, players getting ejected, turnovers, or injuries.
I think Clemson wins as well, but I see it 38-31.

Nice. I took a different slant and came up with 33-23.
