My only concern (so far) about next year

Jan 19, 2016, 6:07 AM

At what point does Dabo pull Watson when we have a good lead? I know that we need to get some experience for the backups, but Watson needs good numbers to contend for the Heisman. Let's face it, his numbers will have to be eye popping to overcome the SEC bias and the only way to do that is to pad them when we have a good lead. I would love to finally have a Heisman winner at CU, but I also would think that to maintain momentum as a program, we will need a QB with some meaningful minutes going into 2017. I agree, not a bad problem to have, but could some hard decisions will need to be made.

That's something he'll just have to get a feel of the game for. But I would say that it will depend on how far ahead our defense is and how well they're playing in each game. I'm sure with Williams being back it won't take long to get his numbers, if our play calling will be aggressive in a lead.

My only concern is Auburn and Fsu and special teams. If when to pull Watson is our only concern then we be in great shape and Watson will already have his great numbers. Also the kid from Stanford will have a lot to say about the heisman trophy he will get his yards each game in multiple ways.

Agree. The Auburn game being first out of the box will be

an interesting test for the defense, as well as special teams. The FSU game there will be tough for sure, especially depending on where it hits the schedule.

With the D having to rebuild experience early in the season

DW will get plenty of action to keep ahead of the other teams. Especially when the other team is a contender like Auburn or Louisville or FSU.

FSU on the road is mine.***

Dalvin Cook is the best running back in the country.

No, I don't stay up until 2 AM to watch Stanford play.

McCaffrey is more than a rb. He's a better overall player than Cook.

He's a Bush/Spiller level playmaker. Those guys come around like twice a decade.

McCaffrey has been genetically engineered. He is an athletic freak. But none is cooler than DW4. This should be a fun Heisman race.

I don't expect many will like me saying this but...

we could have jumped to many leads this past season and given our backup QB plenty of playing time. We didn't by design. Our coaches wanted to keep scores close because the age average of our players is so young.

We have many leaders on this team who are in their second year of college. Bad things happen in tight games to those who can't finish because they expect to be miles ahead of their opponents. Early substitutions and 'wrong,' play-calling contributed to scoring much lower than capacity for these guys.

I know folks think DW was a brain child who lacked anxiety and had ice water in his veins and it's true now. That didn't just happen, it was designed birthed and nurtured by our coaches. That's why DW didn't take the job from Cole on day one. Sure we might have won one more game DW's first season but a conservative minded person would say it was a good plan and even a fool would admit that the fruit of that plan was evident during the NC game for it was tried and it tested positive.

This season DW was selectively thrown into the fire. The way it worked out I'd say perhaps the coaches may have been a little too conservative but they sure got the job done.

Maybe it was just lucky or maybe they are repeating a tried a true method of building confidence in a quarterback.

come on their own. He's not going to make any significant changes to his philosophy to help DW4 win a Heisman.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not concerned. Why?

Jan 19, 2016, 8:59 AM

If you think about it thoroughly regarding the past season, he's really a genius of what he's done. He didn't get an MBA degree for nothing.

- He played a lot of backups. This helped keeping the starters from injuries and let the youngsters gain experiences for the future. This will sustain success year in and year out.

- He did an excellent job on the exposures of the program--BYOG, halftime huddle at Miami, Pizza party, renting a theme park and more.

Is Heisman as important as winning the national title? No. However, having someone winning that trophy will be another good exposure for the program. That's something I think I can trust Dabo that he'll balance things up.

Why didn't he play Watson more this past season? I suspect he didn't think Watson had a good shot as he didn't get a lot of hypes at the beginning of the season. And his goal was more to get through every game and a shot at winning the title. The past season was supposed to be our rebuilding year. Next season goal is obviously different.
