I really hope the staff can find some players in those position groups who would actually be interested in the opportunity of coming to Clemson, not just chasing the biggest bag. I'm kind of conflicted about this because I'm in favor of utilizing the portal, but I also tend to agree with Dabo that bringing in players whose only real incentive for coming is NIL money is something that could have unfortunate consequences for the team and its culture and is something I wish we could avoid. I have no issue with portal players joining. I just don't trust the ones who use it as a way to auction themselves.

But I think Dabo might be afraid of losing his locker room by paying upfront when his message has always been, show up, perform and you still get it…. I think he’s holding onto any control he can and keeping things as innocent and pure as possible

If Dabo (Clemson collective) isn’t paying for portal guys the first year, and obviously many other schools collectives are, the kids lose a year’s worth of NIL in coming to Clemson. Whether you’re a good lineman (and that’s a pickup truck and spending money) or a standout skill player ($1 million plus), either way it’s a lot to forego for a college kid. It’s understandable why the vast majority of these portal guys “don’t like us back.”
My question HLRT is does Dabo have a high level of control of the Clemson NIL (boosters/collective)? I’m surprised some boosters aren’t acting somewhat independently of Dabo in making NIL offers? I suspect it’s like the work environment. You aren’t supposed to talk about raises and salary but everyone does. I suspect the kids know what the others are getting in most cases. Hard to bring in a portal guy getting a half million while telling recruits to go earn it. Dabo is probably trying to keep issues like that out of the locker room?

Not just because of the eye yesterday, I just don’t see the same joy in Dabo’s face and attitude we used to. He just seems burned out by the state of college football to me. You yaed to could just see the positivity in his face and countenance and (to me from afar anyway) just doesn’t seem to be there right now.

Thanks for the info but have already seen many many DE and OL in portal snd already committed, Thought the ALA center was going to be the one but committed to Ohio State. We evidently are not willing to outbid anyone in the portal. ALA center was going to visit Tex A&M then never visited and committed to Ohio State. Tells me OS offered big bucks and he closed recruitment.
