“Program needs better fans”

Says Walt Deptula about the Clemson basketball situation. WCCP going to stick with Brownell no matter what it appears. Literally blaming the fans over him. Ridiculous.

That’s crazy. How many fan bases would be excited about a guy that’s objectively been worse than his predecessor and is having his worst season in year 12? This also may be the worst ACC ever.

Why lie about the situation? OP was fun to watch but accomplished nothing. CBB is having a rough year with youth and injuries. It happens when a team is not elite. Good recruiting class coming in and a good group returning. We could fire CBB and hire a no name coach starting over again but not a wise decision to a reasonable person

"Verbatim" definition is "Exactly the same", or "word for word".

The fault for what/where Clemson basketball is today can be
Feb 16, 2022, 11:32 AM

spread about pretty liberally in a great many directions and over a long period of time.
It was not caused by any one coach, or any specific generation of fans.
Making the quantum leap from mediocre to great for Clemson basketball is very much like the adage of ‘teaching the old dog new tricks’ ...
Clemson basketball is like a lazy old dog, content to eat, sleep, and lie in the shade, occasionally rising to make a half hearted bark or growl when disturbed.
We are who we are as a basketball program because that’s the path we chose when the choosing was still available.

When I was a student in the early 1980s we would admit we attended basketball games to watch the other teams. Saw Ralph Sampson, the NC team with Jordan, Worthy and Perkins, and Len Bias. During that time we had Larry Nance, Horace Wyatt, and Vince Hamilton so some of the games were fun to watch but we knew we weren’t going to really be a contender. I’m not defending Brownell but this situation existed way before him.

Easy Way To Fix Basketball
Feb 16, 2022, 12:11 PM

Easy way to fix our basketball program.
We need to become the Texas A&M of college basketball. We need a corporate sponsor or a few sponsors to establish NIL deals for the basketball program.
Will not take $30 million like A&M has for football. A few million per year should work just fine.

I am amused. Wasn’t it old Lester Maddox, or someone like that who said, “ We will never have better prisons unless(or until) we get a higher class of prisoners

The same thing is happening to the Baltimore Orioles They just need better fans and they wouldn't have finished with the worst record in baseball. The Jacksonville Jaguars have the same problem. The fans are costing these teams wins. If the fans would step it up I could see both of those teams contending for titles next year.

"slaw" kind of rhymes with the way Walt says "Pawl" when he is swooning over Pawl Johnson.

If we had better (more demanding) fans Brownell would have been fired a LONG time ago.

It’s the only logical move given the parameters which have been firmly established.
