My first mentor in business passed away at 97 years of age

Jun 27, 2022, 9:17 AM

This past Friday. He was tough and fair as he taught this young buck in his first job out of college. Before his work career started, he served in SE Asia during WW2, the over the years reared 4 sons and 2 daughters, all outstanding people. He was a mild mannered and very introspective soul who will be sorely missed! ??

Men like that are the best mentors. They have very clearly defined expectations. As long as you show you are giving it all you've got and getting things done, they tend to leave you alone. People like that make you want to do your best and please them.

I had a few men in my life including my dad, who expected maximal effort, weren't there to hear excuses, and made you realize, you can always do a bit better.

I had some other superiors who were inconsistent, unpredictable and belittled others to make themselves look better. A great mentor can be a life changing person and worth his/her weight in gold.

Sorry about your mentor. Tough but fair on anyone's tombstone is not a bad epithet to have.
