Morton’s Steakhouse then Charlotte FC game at 7.

Jul 30, 2022, 3:40 PM

First time for me for both. Is the steakhouse any good?

It's good. I think it's definitely one of the better chains. They have a nice little bar area, too.

The Charlotte FC games are a lot of fun. Definitely a more fun crowd than the Panthers.

Morton’s isn’t bad, but RIP McIntosh’s steakhouse.

Jul 30, 2022, 5:13 PM [ in reply to Re: Morton’s Steakhouse then Charlotte FC game at 7. ]

That was a Charlotte institution. For some reason, bankers I guess, around 2000 Charlotte attracted every chain steak place known to man. Morton’s, Sullivan’s, Ruth’s Chris, Capitol Grill, The Palm……..local places didn’t stand a chance.

The meal was very very good.

It’s it worth that much money… maybe maybe not.

And now the game is delayed for weather and sitting here sweating balls at BofA stadium cement jungle

The only local steakhouse I can think of that is here right now is Beef n Bottle. That place has been around for a while. Best steakhouse in the QC.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, it’s legit and I love the old school vibe.

Jul 30, 2022, 5:48 PM

You would have liked McIntoshes. It was near the South and East blvd intersection and was there wayyyyy before the trolley and whole south end revitalization ever started. Just one of those places that made everyone feel like the most important person in the place every time you went and the food was amazing.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Beef 'N Bottle is still the king of the Queen City.

Jul 31, 2022, 9:53 AM [ in reply to Re: Morton’s isn’t bad, but RIP McIntosh’s steakhouse. ]

Sullivan's has always been my favorite chain, but we knew people that worked there (at least up until the pandemic) and we've always gotten extra-special treatment there. The $48 prix fixe menu is a deal and a perfect amount of food every time I go.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What do you define as a 'chain'?

Jul 30, 2022, 8:02 PM [ in reply to Morton’s isn’t bad, but RIP McIntosh’s steakhouse. ]

just wondered, but I also think of these as franchises.

I have no idea if The Palm, etc. are franchises or not, but if they are not, are they a chain? Used to be Houtson's from Atlanta was in a few cities, but I do not think it was ever franchised.

I have eaten at The Palm in DC (old school and old style) and in Charlotte, both were excellent, as was Sullivans' but all have been many years ago.

Is Del Frisco's still around?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-fatherg-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Corporate owned with multiple locations with almost

Jul 30, 2022, 8:50 PM

identical decor, menus, policies and procedures, etc, usually more than just a regional presence.

Don't think they're franchised so much as restaurant chains with common corporate ownership.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and yes to Del Frisco's....thats a great place.***

The single greatest meal I’ve ever had in Charlotte was at Barrington’s. Chef is the owner and a James Beard nominee, and it’s just a special experience.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I bet I haven't been in 10 years or more.

Jul 31, 2022, 7:53 AM

But yeah, it's an excellent place. If memory serves, they do a prix fixe kind of deal there too. I can't remember what I had there...and other than the fact that there's always some new place opening that gets all the hype, I don't know why I never think to go there.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not bad. Our closed during pandemic

Jul 30, 2022, 6:49 PM

But it was heart of downtown.
Just like any steak house, prep the anus

I just figured game would end at 9 and then wife and I could hang then hotel.

We did just end up walking back after the 2nd delay. Got FN soaked but you know kinda fun

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We got completely soaked last night too.

Jul 31, 2022, 10:00 AM

Left the Ward Davis show at Amos Southend on South Tryon just after 11pm and walked 3 blocks to the car in a monsoon. If you'd told me I'd have the heater on in the car on July 30 in Charlotte, I would have laughed. Not sure I've ever seen the streets flood like that in Uptown Charlotte before.

I must have missed a pretty big storm. I was in a movie theatre watching the Elvis movie. When I came out and drove home, I saw a pretty large tree down on Sardis North. The power went out during the movie, and they had to restart the movie.

Amos's Southend is still around (and/or re-opened)? Thought that place was lost to gentrification years ago?

then reopened about a year later but they lost about 2/3 of their space. It's a much smaller venue now, which is great for being close to the band but the acoustics in that building are not the best. It sounded better when it was larger, oddly enough.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was thinking a little earlier it closed for good.

Aug 1, 2022, 8:34 AM

Either way, I'm glad it was rescued somehow. Hopefully not LiveNation owned now.

Yep, was supposed to be for good but bounced back.

Aug 1, 2022, 8:53 AM

Don't think LiveNation has a grip there, our Ward Davis tickets were from eTix, which serves the independent venues. For a small independent venue, they sure have a large staff of huge muscular bouncers there. It looked like the WWE locker room when we walked inside Saturday night, LOL.
