My email to The State re" Tajh Boyd" speedong article

Dec 11, 2013, 3:13 PM

To the reporter above and to all staff of The State (please pass along to them),

The article in the subject line might be the best (worst?) example of inbreeding and inferiority complex that I have ever seen exhibited by a media outlet. The State long ago ceased to represent the state of SC, but rather acts as nothing more than a shill for all things USC. Need I bring up the Ron Morris vs. Steve Spurrier farce that made your paper the laughingstock of media across the country.

Well congrats; you've managed to do it again!

If you deny that you ran this story about a Clemson football player who received a speeding warning simply because a USC football player was ticketed for driving 40 miles an hour over the posted speed limit, then you (The State) is quite frankly, lying. Has someone getting a warning ticket EVER been reported on before? EVER? ANYWHERE?

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence (which excludes the majority of Columbia), can see this feeble attempt as a "Gotcha" directed towards anything, something Clemson so as to somehow justify(?) the actions of the USC football player while simultaneously demeaning the Clemson player. Unbelievable. Comparing Tajh Boyd to Jadaveon Clowney is like, well; comparing Albert Einstein to Alvin Greene (another USC graduate!).

Fortunately I no longer reside in "the armpit of the South" and only saw this article when an acquaintance pointed it out.

In the meantime, please be sure to continue to overlook anything that resembles anything other than favorable to USC; continue to report on anything Clemson in a negative light. Most of those with that ounce of intelligence mentioned above (again excluding the majority of Columbia) know that you are pandering to your readers.

Feel good that that same majority of mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, jorts wearing and mullet sporting reader (aka Gamecock fan) adores your reporting, while outside the dome that encases Columbia, The State is a journalistic joke.

Meanwhile I will be content with my degree from Clemson University that ranks # 133 in ROI (that's Return on Investment for the financially illiterate) of 1485 colleges and universities in the USA (that's the top 9% if you are keeping score) as compiled by payscale.com in associated with Bloomberg, vs. # 780 ROI for USC alumni (that's ...hey TOP 53%!! Congrats!). And no need to go into ratings from US News and World Report, Princeton Review, Money and Kiplingers., etc., etc., ad nauseum..........more of the same actually as regards education quality.

Well anyway............y'all just keep cranking out lawyers (we surely need more!) and journalists down there and we will build your cities, manage your money, find more efficient and cheaper ways to feed more people, find alternative energy solutions, develop more efficient automobiles, graduate more doctors per capita, etc., etc., etc.

You know what they say a USC student and a Clemson student have in common anyway: "they both were accepted to USC"!

Oh and congratulations on your 13th win in the past 38 years in football and preventing Clemson from winning for the 50th time in Columbia! Good work.

Happy Holidays.

Sincerely.

but ultimately I feel very confident in saying The State probably does not gives a rip.

As you so eloquently pointed out, The State has pretty much always been and in all likelihood will continue to be little more than a Capon propaganda rag.

I love this paranoia about the media...

Dec 11, 2013, 3:34 PM

I was just on FGF this morning marveling at how they believe that every media outlet, including ESPN and The State, has an agenda to ruin South Carolina and elevate Clemson. And on TigerNet, they all have an agenda to ruin Clemson and elevate South Carolina. I find it utterly fascinating, honestly.

I guess it's like that on every sports message board, though I don't frequent any others.

post online, you'd think The State was run by the Clemson BOT. It's just a funny thing how "to the extreme" fans seem to take some of that kind of stuff.

Media outlets are in the business of making money. If they can sell more papers by putting a story about Boyd or Clowney speeding on the cover, then that's what's going on the cover!

SCAR fans. I wonder what % of SCAR fans read, let alone would pay for a paper.

I live near Columbia and had a paid subscription for over 10 years ago. I dropped it 3 years ago when all the baseball crud starting showing up on the front page every day for weeks after their NC.

A month ago was in the Bi-Lo and they were signing people up and offered me a free copy. I told the guy that I wouldn't line my cat's litter box with that rag.

National Videos KERSHAW COUNTY — The day before University of South Carolina football star Jadeveon Clowney was clocked speeding 110 mph in Fairfield County, a rival Clemson University star was stopped for speeding in Kershaw County. But unlike Clowney, who received a $355 fine and a six-point penalty, Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd was issued only a warning for traveling 84 mph in a 70-mph zone along Interstate 20.Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews Tuesday said the warning ticket is typical for his deputies. He said they had given out 10,000 such warnings in the past two-and-a-half years.“We don’t want Kershaw County to become a speed trap — a cash cow for us,” Matthews said. “We’re pretty lenient. The goal is to change behavior.”Matthews said deputies are given wide latitude to decide whether to issue a fine or warning. He said if Boyd had been traveling 110 mph through his county, he would have received the same fine and point-deduction as Clowney. Click the link to see the S.C. Highway Patrol camera of Clowney's ticketing. The Kershaw County stretch of I-20 has proven deadly in recent years. Two teenagers whose car left the roadway were found in a river along I-20 last year, and a fatal crash occurred while traffic was backed up during the investigation. Matthews said his deputies spend about 30 percent of their time on the interstate, trying to prevent such tragedies. But speed remains a problem. Matthews said a motorcycle registered the highest speed recorded in the county, admitting to driving 183 mph when deputies finally caught up to him.

The article is worse than I would imagine

Dec 11, 2013, 5:04 PM

The obvious slant of the article is that Clowney received a fine whereas Boyd only received a warning - implying an impropriety.

Exactly why I don't get that paper and don't even read it online.

When you write an article that complains about someone's lack of an education while bragging on your own, you may want to have a friend or colleague proofread it for the many grammatical errors contained within. Other than that, I loved it.

you prolly lost a lot of credibility when you made it an email that sounds like something that would be posted on a message board as opposed to something that would be sent to a legitimate business.

Hard to take a business email seriously when it includes terms like "inbreeding" "the armpit of the South" "mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, jorts wearing and mullet sporting reader"

They may have actually read it otherwise...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL..

Dec 11, 2013, 5:42 PM

emails or letters like that are why they will keep doing it. They know it invites readers and hits on their website.

You could have gotten your point across much better by leaving out all the insults. You have now put them on the defensive side of things.

Plus, it looks pretty stupid to brag on your Clemson degree with all the errors in that email. By doing that you made the entire University look bad because you throw out all the insults to usc.

Nice job making Clemson look bad.
