Class Reunion

Jun 9, 2022, 11:52 AM

Felling rejuvenated. Arrived in old Tigertown last night to attend my 72nd class reunion- Class of 1950. This class sent many newly minted Second Lieutenants off to fight the Korean War. Some paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. I think I have mentioned this is previous posts. Several Clemson graduates were in the group of officers that I was in who flew out of Seattle to Anchorage, the Aleutian Islands , Tokyo, and ultimately to Korea. One was Billy Preacher, a former football played who was killed just weeks after arriving . Another officer, my friend John Harper from Seneca, was assigned to a Graves Registration Company. One day John called me and said, “I just saw Billy Preacher”. That’s all he could say, but I knew what he meant.. Tough news to hear.

The class of 50 produced several Generals, one of whom , Major General Harry L Dukes was the Quartermaster General and Commander of Fort Lee, Virginia from 1981-84. Unfortunately Harry died in 1987 at just 59 years of age.A great career cut short.

I am so happy and fortunate to still have very good health and a loving family of four children, 10 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. My daughter from New York City and son from Delaware came to bring me to the reunion. The maid at the Abernathy told me that I didn’t look like I was old enough to be celebrating my 72 nd reunion. Guess I’ll leave her a nice tip.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Thank you for sharing, Tiger Kid. Glad you made it to Clemson to celebrate your reunion. My dad served in Korea, so I'm always looking for anything posted about it.
