My Clemson vs Auburn Position matchup (Long)

Auburn WRs vs Clemson DBs: Advantage Even
Auburn's wr's are mostly under 6' which leads me to believe they are more slot/speedy guys who will rely on their speed to try and cause separation. We need to jam them at the LOS every down and knock them off of their timing routes. Also I believe that we'll bring some elaborate blitzes to confuse their OL and get to White. If we establish a pass rush then that's all she wrote for them passing attack

Auburn OL/RB vs Clemson DL/LB: Advantage Clemson
With losing their starting RB and not starting Robinson III I have less concern about their running game. They have good OGs but their OTs are a bit green and White is not a great runner, certainly nothing to game plan around to be honest. Our DEs will need to play their assignments but BV is one of the best in getting them to do so. Also our DT rotation should be more than enough to stifle the inside runs which makes things easier on the DEs read and react option. Expect Boulware and Jospeh to have big games.

Clemson WRs v Auburn DBs: Advantage Clemson
Let's be honest this is going to be an advantage for Clemson for every team we play except maybe FSU. WRU is going to get their and torch Auburn's smaller DBs more than once tomorrow. Auburn's best and only chance is if they get to Watson consistently and to be honest they do have the talent up front to make that happen. As it stands though Auburn is not stopping Williams, Cain, Renfrow, Scott, McCloud, etc with just their secondary alone

Clemson OL/RB vs Auburn DL/LB: Advantage Even
This is where the game will be won or lost. If we establish a run game and keep Watson upright then we win and it won't be by less then 14 points. Too many weapons and too many ways to stress a D. Lawson, Adams and their starting WDE are all studs though so this will be a big test for Hearn and Jake Fruh. As long as they hold up and we pound Gallman/Choice/Watson then we will tire them out and take them down.

Auburn is no cupcake but we're NO.2 in the country for a reason. As long as we play our game and take care of the ball then we'll weather their early barrage of emotion from the crowd and team and firmy establish ourselves as deserves of our spot.

Spot the Ball.

Nice post.

Add to that we must minimize turnovers to not give up any cheap scores, and for the love of God please let's tighten up our kick coverage.

Excellent post!

I did a little research on Auburn and came up with the same assessment about their DL. They have a number of 4/5 star guys across their line and Lawson is NFL caliber to say the least. That is their best shot at keeping this game close. If their line is dominant, then it could get interesting. I just don't see it though....especially for 4 quarters. Auburn problem will be that they can only put 11 defenders on the field. You can't spy Watson and double cover our WRs and still get consistent pressure. Something will have to give. I don't know too much about their secondary except that they are down a CB and S. I believe we might see the big plays when the backups have to come in and give those starters a breather.

We're just deeper and more talented and better coached.

Leggett and Renfrow will be our best mismatches

Sep 2, 2016, 10:03 AM

Their LBs are good but not great and they read and react more then they attack the LOS like our LBs do. This means that the 5 yard slant to Renfrow should be there all day long and Leggett is a mismatch that at this time I don't think they have an answer for. They will focus on playing 2 high safety and taking away the deep ball imo. Unfortunately that leaves the middle off the field open to us. we did more or less the same against Bama with the occasional deep shot to Renfrow to keep them honest

well said! no easy cheap scores, limit turnovers(not more than one). cover kicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this cost the NC last year and I have heard VERY LITTLE about this over the summer! simply NO REASON for it to be as bad as last year!
