what are the odds we lose a game we suppose to win

Apr 22, 2022, 8:59 PM

because of his play & he gets benched and applies for the transfer portal?

Much better than him winning the Heisman, that's for sure.

Apr 23, 2022, 8:12 AM [ in reply to what are the odds we lose a game we suppose to win ]

This is my fear, we’ll lose games (again) that we should win due to the stubbornness to pull the trigger or start the best player. Odds for the Heisman; about as much chance as a one legged man in a a$$ kicking contest.

2024 white level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wait, really?

Apr 23, 2022, 4:49 PM

I mean, in all sincerity, what games do you see this team losing to on this schedule?

I don't see any losses; maybe Notre Dame, but even that wouldn't affect the league trophy by nature & likely also DJ's campaign for the Heisman.

The schedule is favorable enough (we don't even have a bye-week opponent this year), but here's my concern; if Clemson is bad enough this year to lose multiple games, no QB (including Cade) can help enough on his own to win the league or make it to the Heisman ceremony.

I'm prepared for DJ & this team to have success, but I admit, I feel alone there most of the time lately.

Re: Wait, really?

Apr 23, 2022, 7:47 PM

REALLY! Did you see us losing to N.C. State, or Pittsburg last year?
Did you see us struggling against either Syracuse or Ga. Tech?
If you can honestly answer no to these two questions, your a better man than I am Gunga Din.
All you had to do was look at the play of the O-Line, the wide receivers and the quarterback.
Football is a fickle game, and all you have to do is allow a team to hang around and it spells a receipt for something bad to go wrong.
To heck with the Heisman!
P.S. So you don't see any losses, but maybe Notre Dame. Which one is it?
Frankly it's way to early to point to any one game with the way the offense played last year but I can assure a season of 9 touchdown passes versus 10 interceptions and a passing % under .600 won't get you to New York!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So we would have won if Dabo played someone else?

Apr 23, 2022, 10:52 PM

You folks are unreal. Gotta win a national championship every year to please some of you folks, and then you'll still find to b!tch about.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Note to all you complainers about the complainers

Apr 24, 2022, 8:59 AM

I do not expect to win a national championship every year but I like for Clemson to win and win every game, if possible. This goal should be the same for all Clemson fans and yes, it is perfectly OK to b!tch and complain when you see loyalty to any one player or coach take away even a fraction of that opportunity. So all you "Kumbayah" ers that do not want to hear any criticism of decisions or game plans, or play calling need to go elsewhere because the complainers and "Monday morning QBs" love this team just as much as you think you do, maybe more. And what games could we lose next year if the best Clemson team available is not on the field? Try ND, SC, Wake, NCSU, and even BC and Fla St. It is not always about winning the Natty every year but it is definitely about being properly prepared to win every game you can.

Wait, that's NOT what we're saying here, though

Apr 24, 2022, 12:03 PM

I don't think anyone here is saying "kumbayah" and to insist we just stick with DJ because of loyalty or tenure alone or something like that.

But the insistence that DJU can't compete in spite of seeing him do that just the season before last is kinda lost on many of us, does that make more sense?
Like, I have no problem with criticism, none, but to be fair, it's not proportionate & often inaccurate from a strictly fundamental POV.

The spring game, for example, for every route-runner out of position, it's CRICKETS for them, but the entirety of the blame is put on DJU en masses & at full volume for any & every missed catch... in spite of the ball being where it was explicitly designed to be (& on time) for designed-pass plays in particular.

Regardless of our disagreements on DJU's ceiling or floor, the odds make sense; if this team can't win the league with DJU, it likely isn't winning a Heisman with Cade, either. But winning the league with an undefeated or one-loss run makes 28-1 at the very least look legitimate, particularly coming from oddsmakers who care NOTHING for our internal bickering about how uncompetitive this team or any of its players will be this season. Hope this helps make more sense.

To your point, is this team is losing to "ND, SC, Wake, NCSU, and even BC and Fla St.," replacing DJU with Cade Klubnik alone isn't going to fix that (& to the point of the article, that's why Cade's odds were given a longer line by nature).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Wait, that's NOT what we're saying here, though

Apr 29, 2022, 9:23 AM

I was merely addresses earlier questions like : "What teams could we possibly lose to?" And I say all those listed could very well beat us if we are not prepared and put the best available players on the field. Could it be a loyalty problem (I evaluated him, I recruited him = he's playing because I know he can do it), a coach's game plan problem, a player's ability or injury problem, or it could be that the opponent was better that day.
How about Complainers. Give the complainers some credit please. No, they do not have to be all COOTS! They love Clemson, love the guys on the team, they love Dabo and the coaches. They just need to vent over something they see as wrong, wrong, wrong. Let them have their say with no name calling is all I was trying to convey.
Go Tigers!

Social media has really screwed up our fan base IMO. Cringe fans and very little knowledge on operating any kind of functioning entity. I am continually cracked up by all the football coaches with infinite knowledge who populate this and other Clemson sites. I’m sure Graham Neff is making notes and wii reach out if needed.

Re: So we would have won if Dabo played someone else?

Apr 24, 2022, 3:00 PM [ in reply to So we would have won if Dabo played someone else? ]

Put your reading glasses on. I didn't say a thing about winning a National Championship. I was referring to possible games we could lose if our offense isn't fixed.
And if it isn't fixed, those 28/1 Heisman odds might as well be a 1000/1.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Totally agree.

Apr 29, 2022, 9:31 AM

People see what they want to see I guess. No, we are not spoiled as many suggest. We want to win if we have the best players and the best coaches without too many too many bad decisions. Yes, the bubble screen worked for Sammy Watkins against Ohio St, but has it worked since? OK, but not very often. I prefer to have positive yards on every play.

Pitt, yes, in all sincerity, & I spoke about that here plenty after Pickett's stint with Peyton Manning; it worked, too, inescapably.

So you're suggesting we are so bad this year we lost to most of those teams again, even in spite of their roster changes & Clemson's health?

I'm listening, sincerely, but no, I don't think I'm crazy to suggest Clemson can win this season and IF they do then DJU is in NYC & the odds in the story above simply aren't illegitimate, know what I'm saying?

And if we are that bad from top to bottom, Cade absolutely can't save us alone, either.

PS---Notre Dame is after our bye-week (& not theirs, as we are the only team in D1 with that distinction again this year) and crucially they don't affect Clemson's ability to win the league title. In simplest terms, a loss to the most competitive team on the schedule in a road game at night isn't a deathstroke certainty, including for the odds in this story which was my point.

Stubbornness to start the best player? How many games must Dabo win? How many playoffs and national championships? How much more could we be one of best teams of the playoff era before some of you clowns stop b!tching about how Dabo does things? And exactly how many games have we lost because Dabo hasn't played the best players, according to you?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in DJ’s corner, but (+3000) is a little light. Interestingly, Cade is at +5500

I get that the team has to win for a QB to be in the mix and if DJ actually plays Heisman caliber football we’ll win every game by four scores. It would make for a great redemption story too, but I’d go with Will Anderson at the same odds (Bovada).

This is so stupid. DJ had two great games when teams had 0 information or video on him. He also was playing with Etienne and a slew of other experienced players. Since then, we have an entire season where he was the second worst QB in the entire country and worst Clemson QB in history and now a Spring game with no improvement.

What stats are you using for that? If you take the average of the major stats (QBR, accuracy, yards, yards per attempt, touchdowns, and interceptions), he was the second worst QB in the country and worst in the ACC.

Consider if Clemson is undefeated

Apr 23, 2022, 4:44 PM

Consider if Clemson is undefeated, which certainly seems more likely than 28:1, how likely is DJU to be in NYC for the Heisman ceremony?

To me, it seems essentially inevitable, making 28:1 odds seem legitimately realistic outright.

I admit, though, I do remember his spectacular debut season & what he looks like closer to his talent ceiling with good players around him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Serious question;

Apr 23, 2022, 4:58 PM

You think we could be undefeated this coming season with the same QB play we saw last year? Did DJ look very improved in the spring game?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, sincerely. Let's look at the schedule

Apr 23, 2022, 5:29 PM

Find the losses on the schedule, that's my whole thing.

We're the only team in all of D1 with no bye-week opponents, & arguably the most competitive one, Notre Dame, is after our bye-week AND doesn't affect Clemson's ability to reach the league title.

I don't think it's crazy at all, I just think many fans haven't thought about it looking at the actual calendar & competition, know what I mean?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yes, sincerely. Let's look at the schedule

Apr 25, 2022, 1:21 AM

Right now, Notre Dame is a likely loss without substantially improved offensive play. I see several games that could be toss-ups with last year's offense. NC State, Boston College, Syracuse (always a close game), and Miami could all be close. The Coots should also be improved with Rattler. They definitely have the better QB right now if Cade doesn't step up and become the starter. I feel like you just missed that last season happened. We had 8 one score games, against only one elite team. We really had 9 if you remember what happened with Florida State. What makes you see a huge difference? We lost Venables, the only reason we won some of those one score games. Elliott was not a good OC, but there's 0 evidence to suggest Streeter is an improvement. We didn't recruit anyone stellar who can be an instant game changer except for Cade Klubnik. Literally the only way you can say we can be better this year is if you admit DJ is going to be benched and Klubnik take the reins.

I think we need to focus more on wins than odds.10 wins won't even get DJ an invitation to the cheap seats in New York.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ten wins, likely not, but

Apr 24, 2022, 11:00 AM

What about 11? Would that not be enough? Statistically it would be better than the average Heisman winner, for example.

Which 2 losses do you see?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Ten wins, likely not, but

Apr 25, 2022, 1:23 AM

No. 11 is not enough. If we went 11-1 and DJ increased last season's accuracy by 10%, doubled his yards, tripled his touchdowns, and halved his interceptions, he would not go to New York. He wouldn't even be a top 10 QB with those stats.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You really need scientific notation for the odds...
