My 2 cents on the season so far

Oct 25, 2021, 8:49 AM

Short story - a perfect storm:

Loads and loads of injuries - some short term, some season ending - to key players on both sides of the ball. Not much anyone can do about that.

Lack of experience on offense. Loads of youth - only one senior came back to the same position they played last year. The rest of the offense is sophomores and juniors, and most of the 2nd string are freshmen and some sophomores. Lots of youth.

Lack of leadership on offense. Should be the QB, but doesn't seem like DJ really has that leadership pilot light lit in him yet. And speaking of DJ...

Starting QB seems overwhelmed and indecisive in the pocket. He definitely has the talent and the strength, but the decision making and reading the defense seems to be lacking right now. No easy fix for that - just experience.

The coaches have been spoiled by "generational talents" in DW and TL. They were not only great QBs and athletes, but great leaders and great decision makers in the pocket - two things that DJ seems to be lacking. Dabo said it many times - how easy it was to coach both DW and TL. DJ and even TP are the more "regular" QBs that perhaps need more coaching than the coaches have needed to do in recent years.

This team seems to be lacking the discipline of previous teams, with the penalties, dropped balls and missed blocks. Why - I have no idea. Maybe the lack of leadership? Maybe missing that strength in the QB position has the others guys lacking in concentration, or maybe, as coaches have said, they're trying too hard. Either way, change this one element alone - and it's very do-able - and our season is very different.

No matter, I'm 100% behind this team AND these coaches. These coaches didn't just forget how to coach. They do need to learn to adjust better, it seems, to a different type of QB and offense than they've had to work with, but they didn't just turn stupid.

So, in summary, GO TIGERS! Beat FSU!

Agree on Leadership with DJ, in his interviews after games he seems to be more worried about his hair than how his team just performed. He just follows the questions given (no fire!) and very repetitive as his answers don't seem genuine. I guess very immature and insecure is what I what I am trying to say unless he is on some kind of anti depressent/medicine, I don't think I have ever seen anyone so non emotional.

Last year when DJ was playing well, his interviews showed how calm and level-headed he was as a player.

This year when he isn't the star of the games, his interviews show that he lacks emotion.

He isn't playing his best. Do you want him to cry during his interviews because we lost?

Do you want him yelling at reporters?

Do you want him ignoring questions and giving a rah rah speech to the reporters?

DJ has media obligations because of his position on a college football team. He shows up every week and completes his interviews.

Picking apart his interviews to find extra things to take shots at him for is far beyond casual fan frustrations. It makes it a personal attack on his character and behavior.

i think this team as a whole is more worried about

practicing handshakes and back flips before the game than playing. cut all the extemporaneous crap out and focus. But i imagine it's harder on kids these days with social media. It's got be be hard. Especially while going to school.

Team handshakes are totally a new thing right?

Our guys only have fun doing handshakes now that we are losing right?

What a complete waste of being upset with something.

Half of the complainers feel that the team doesn't have enough chemistry and can't play well together.

The other half are mad that the team tries to build a bond and have fun together.
