Murders in big cities: Would legalizing all drugs solve a

huge part of this? There are too many guns on the street to consider any new kind of gun control measures that would work.
Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, Detroit, New Orleans, Memphis, Cleveland, D.C., Philly, North Charleston even, all are included in the highest murder rates in our country. The ATL ranks #22, BTW.
Many of the murders occur over turf wars or rival drug gangs trying to gain and hold on to territories in the inner city, especially in the heroin and cocaine trade.
It just seems logical to me that if we setup govt. agencies to offer these drugs legally, much of the murder crime would go away. In addition it would hit the drug cartels' profits where it would hurt the most. These facilities could be manned by enough police and/or military to confront any of the current drug gangs. I'm thinking letting the private sector set up these shops wouldn't offer enough profit incentive if you want to undercut the gangs' current prices.
I know this is a crazy AF out of the box idea and maybe I've watched too much of the Wire and Breaking Bad, especially the Hamsterdam area set up in Baltimore by Major Bunny Colvin.
I'm not talking giving the drugs away either. Just selling them at a price lower than the street value. In these designated buy areas, you could have medical staff on board, distribute free condoms and other birth control with built in soup kitchens.

so the gubmint uses taxpayer money to sell them really really cheap, the street vendor could just buy there and be subsidized by the taxpayer
even then, who would want to enter a gubmint drug center, to be recorded buying drugs
when everyone has all the drugs they want, where do i make money, maybe carjacking, burglary, robbery

lollers, you are talking to someone who spent 5 years on California's medical marihuana registry. The quality you get from a dispenser, as well as the immediate availability, not waiting on your stoner dealer, pretty much put an end to street dealers.

legalizing marijuana for sure, I am not sure you want to legalize cocaine, it makes people fugging crazy and potentially violent.. Legalizing heroin would stop petty theft, but do nothing for violent crime while ruining a lot of lives. I mean Oxycotin was practically legal, and look at the results, opiate overdoses are currently the leading cause of death 18-35-year-olds, passing auto accidents a couple of years back. We are still paying the price for the Sackelrs greed there, so a big fat no on opiates.

I think Portugal did it right, decriminalization, and they took the money used for law enforcement and put it into free drug rehab, a key fact missing from the libertarian argument. Absolutely we need to stop locking people up for this stuff unless they get behind the wheel or commit a crime. It would also save us a ton of money in the long run over incarceration. The best rehab facilities in Malibu cost less than 4 years of taxpayer-funded jail time and would be far more effective, I mean you can get all the drugs you want in prison.

I've never used it and have no interest in it, but it seems silly for it to be illegal when cigarettes are legal. If people want to smoke a joint or use marijuana medicinally in a safe manner, I'm good with it.
I think we would quickly regret making harder drugs like heroin, cocaine, etc. legal. I do think it could decrease crime rates and incarcerations, but I'm not sure it's worth the trade-off for the negative impact on society.

That would be a heyll no! I would rather my tax money go to kids that want a future!

Care if it would reduce the murder rate, but I can only imagine that it would, given the fact that it would remove the primary income stream from the violent gangs that account for most of the murders.
