More on the 50th RHHS reunion

Arriving in RH Saturday, drove thru downtown (where did the rock hill go???), then down White St out to the old ‘hood on Pinewood Road. The house I grew up in was so tiny!
Drove back thru town and by Winthrop then ate a late lunch at Friendlys.
Checked into a hotel and watched a rainstorm pass through, cooling off the temp and leaving the area an hour b4 reunion start. Perfect!

Arrived at the Farm about 6:20 and there were already 100 people there! Immediately started seeing old friends and found it difficult to get around and speak to everyone. Individuals would come up to talk, a few I didn’t remember. Several mentioned that I was an outstanding baseball player even though I was just one of the average pitchers and outfielders. Several of my closest HS friends were also in my frat at Clemson, and it was great to reconnect.

A number of the gals in my class stood around together much of the night, was unsure if husbands were there or not. Most stilled lived in RH. The prettiest girl at RHHS when I was a junior was a senior cheerleader. Was just an acquaintance then but she came up and spoke. She was still pretty but looked sad. I’m pretty sure she had married shortly after college and later divorced, but was married again to a guy in my 72 class and they lived nearby. There’s another related story from back in 70/71 but I’ll have to hold back on that for now.

My Mrs enjoyed the evening more than she expected, so that was good. I would not have gone without her. One of my closest friends and I vowed to reconnect especially during football season. He lives in Cola and used to come to most FB games but not in recent years. He had a sad wife/child story that I learned about but will not share, but I’m glad we talked about it.

If I think of anything else worth posting, I will!
