Monte Lee by whatever means necessary

Jun 12, 2015, 9:53 PM

I read the boards quite often, but I very seldom post a response or a topic for that matter. As a Clemson Grad and avid college baseball fan living here in Charleston, I have watched CofC baseball a lot over the past 3-4 years. If we pass or don't do everything possible to get Lee it will be a mistake that will haunt us for a long time. I promise you he is at the top of Tanner's list at USuC if Holbrook is ousted. I will also guarantee wherever he goes he will win and win big. He will also have some rings and all the instate talent. He is that good. He's not just a great recruiter, but he also knows how to flat out coach. After having one of the strongest pitching staffs in the nation last year and losing in the super regional 1-0&1-0 he changed there offseason workout and hitting regimen. After losing two of his starting pitchers to season ending injuries at the start of the season he still managed to develop a great staff that ranked in the top 20 in the nation in era. Their team batting average ranked in the top 20 also. My point is I've never witnessed another coach that adapts to the strengths of his team as well as Lee. He knows how to manufacture runs when he has too, he develops young players, his teams very seldom make fundamental errors, they do there jobs well and would run through a wall for him. He manages a game backwards as well as anyone I've ever seen in college. I haven't watched these other candidates in person so I can't speak on their behalf but I can say that Monte Lee would be an absolute home run at Clemson.

Are you Monte Lee's dad, or is it you coach Lee;)

Just a fan that realized a long time ago that we were in a decline under JL so I started watching other coaches more closely. Make a note, copy this thread, put it on the cloud to be retrieved later. Monte Lee is an absolute winner and I will stand by that statement.

Winner? Had did he do heads up against Leggett ?

On the surface he looks great, but his assistant is his secret. Lee is also a coot. We don't need the chicken curse on our tigers.

Are we absolutely positive that WE don't already have a curse??? Something sure is wrong. Please don't whine when USUC snatches this guy as their new coach and continues to kick our butts in yet another sport. Just sayin'.

CLEMSON will never go after a premier coach of an established To[ Ten program, so some of you guys need to realize that before your hearts are broken yet again. Besides, it's not practical business sense to go after certain coaches as they will never leave and will cost a fortune to get them here. You've worked in business before - right? And you understand business - right? If so, then this guy might be as good as we get. Put your big boy pants on and learn to deal with the CLEMSON WAY. It will still be here when we're gone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The old "big boy pants" statement. Not sure what that

Jun 13, 2015, 8:47 AM

has to do with choosing a baseball coach but our wide receiver hire of Dabo has turned out better than a "top 10" hire every day of the week.

Thanks for sharing that jakl. I completely agree with everything you said, and it's nice to hear it from someone who is from the Charleston area. This guy is a homerun hire. He has done it all at CoC. Conference championships regular and tournament) players drafted, all americans, and last but not least a ridiculous post season track record. only four seed to ever sweep a regional! EVER!! Did I mention he is young and could be the next Wilhelm/Leggett type hire in regards to longevity? It sure will ruffle the coots feathers too. Thanks again for the post.

I agree , Hope we give Him the chance. I think he really wants to come to Clemson.

If he knows how to manufacture runs then what happened

Jun 13, 2015, 8:41 AM

with the double 1-0 losses in the playoffs?

Jun 13, 2015, 8:49 AM

LOL. I'll take those one run losses compared to the multitude of embarrassments in recent post season memory from Leggett. Blowouts from lesser opponents and pulling defeat from the jaws of victory, were common place under Jack. Are you serious man? Only four seed to ever SWEEP a regional! EVER! Hahahahahahah.

I heard the same thing this week from two coot fans who think that if we don't sign Monte
Lee,Tanner will if Holbrook has another bad season.
I also heard from a couple of golfers on the driving range
at The Walker Course yesterday that O'Sullivan might come but you could forget Corbin at Vandy.Apparently he is too loyal to Jack.
Two other names mentioned are Matthew LeCroy ,and Bradley LeCroy.
I have heard Matthews named mentioned several times. But is he good head coaching material?
So what is the opinion here?
Who do we like?

I agree , M Lee would be a great hire.
He is just the type of coach that would get Clemson baseball back on track.

what direction does it look like the school is going in?

Some ppl on here know just enough to be dangerous. Like being a white belt in karate and going to the bar to try to pick fights.

I would take Monte's top assistant over him. He was at CofC as hitting coach and they were one of the top hitting teams in ncaa. He left and they fell off. Came back as pitching coach and they became one of the best pitching teams in ncaa, but hitting suffered (0-1,0-1 losses in supers). Everyone hates him but he gets results.

You hire Monte and I gaurantee Monte will try to bring him unless they make him HC at cofc.

Then we are back at square one.

You think we would hire an assistant from a non power 5? White belt! ;) Lee was smart enough to have this guy on his ship. Point Lee! Next.

Needing to correct something... His "top asst." was never a hitting coach, he's been at CofC for a few seasons and has always been pitching. From what I've heard, Lee himself focuses on hitting quite a lot. He's into "power hitting".

Re: Asking the "know"

Jun 13, 2015, 4:56 PM

Matt Heath is the assistant Monte wants to bring. This is from Heath's C of C bio.
"He is one of the rare coaches that has coached both hitting and pitching and had success on both sides of the ball."......"In his first stint with the Cougars, he worked primarily with the hitters and the Cougars excelled under his guidance. The offense was ranked nationally in numerous categories and broke multiple school and conference records."

Monte Lee is an excellent hitting coach, and probably does spend some time with hitters. But the original poster was correct about Heath.

Actually it said he was a hitting coach, he left and hitting plummeted, came back and pitching rose. That's not what happened, therefore, it needed to be cleared up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very good post... It is dumb to reject a coach because

Jun 13, 2015, 10:11 AM

he once was an assistant at USC. I would say to go get this guy.
