Money isn't everything - Mississippi State

Oct 17, 2014, 12:37 AM

is now # 1. In spending on football, they are 58th in the nation with $15.3 million. In the past few years, their recruiting rankings are in high 20s and 30s.

Alabama ranks first in the nation in football spending - $41.6 million.

(Spending figures are for FY 2013 - in Wall Street Journal article)

But Mississippi State held on to their players - a lot of seniors and juniors on the team

But that spending doesn't take into account the $ spent

People can say the same thing about clemson. Smaller land grant school from small state with little going for it yet pulls in cj, nuk, Sammy, Tajh, etc and some stay a senior yr.

Very elementary and naive argument to always say they pay their recruits. Tajh would have gone higher in draft as a jr but came back. Did someone pay him? How much better is Clemson's record because of CJ and Tajh senior yrs?

Maybe Mullen is miss St's Dabo and guys want to stay and play.

Clemson big recruiting can be attributed to national relevance lately with top 10 seasons. That does not act for how big time players came before that. Tommy wasn't making the Orange bowl yet they signed anyway

Maybe Miss st gets some big recruits after this but I think they are following Clemson's process. Good young coach the players like and play hard for equals senior yrs that bring better talent and more cohesiveness

there is no historical comparison between CU and MSU

Oct 17, 2014, 8:27 AM

football, and there is there is no comparison in the quality of the 2 schools academically; CU had plenty in it's past and tradition to draw players and could have stayed relevant nationally in the 90s if they had any sense at the administration level.

I look for MSU to be a 1 yr thing... A lot of SRs on this team, kind of reminds me of WF when they won the ACC a few yrs back.

isn't bama ranked in top 10 forever?
