Appeal to authority would put Crump & BMeist

Sep 8, 2014, 1:41 PM

out of business if it weren't a logical fallacy to begin with.

C'mon guys. We don't have to take ourselves too seriously, but if "Dabo is the coach" and "do you coach football? If not, hush" are the best arguments we can come up with, it might be time to shelve any and all debates about the football team until AFTER we in the national title.

Even though arguing from (and conceding to) authority has never turned out wrong for anyone at any point in history, maybe we can try a different approach?

Could you imagine if someone went into the religion+politics

Board and said "guys guys this man is the president. Do you guys have any experience being the president? If not hush"

Dabo has the right to go against public opinion and do what he thinks is best. Just like our current and all previous PotUS's have done. But saying that they are above reproach and second guessing is something that is only used by people on the side of the man in power.

I think we can all agree booing cole was bad. But that's about all that is above reproach that dabo has said.

Yeah, booing is absolutely uncalled for. I don't even mind people saying "it's the coaches decision" and leaving it at that, which SquishyWaffle did a good job of earlier.

It's the belligerent "thanks, Coach IBeWriteGood!" and such that are really annoying and completely defeat the purpose of a message board.

It's a dead horse. We need to stop "Deciding"

Sep 8, 2014, 1:49 PM

Since we already know what everyone thinks. Guess what the result of our collective decision will be: Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

Well since it's a given that our decision isn't going to sway anything (is there anyone here who has indicated that they hope their opinion sways Coach Swinney? I doubt it), would you concede that it's okay for us to use a message board to talk about why we think DW should be the starter, etc. If not here, where?

That's all I'm saying. Simply responding "you're not the coach" creates an awkward "well no shit" moment that's just tedious to work around when we've got good points on both sides being made.
