Mom passed at 8:30 tonight, my big brother by her side

Tonight my mother passed away. 90 years old this last July and this year has been a year of failing health and failing mind. She always had more heart than sense, but she always meant well. I saw her just a week ago (we’re 4 hours away) and it was as good a visit as we could have had with her state of mind and health. She and my father met when in college. Her at Converse and my Dad at Clemson. Dad played football on scholarship for Frank Howard and was a scrappy starter for a guy 5’ 11” and 175lbs. As my Dad entered grad school, they were married and lived on campus and my oldest sister was born in campus housing as well. Mom had great stories of dressing up for games. In those times (1950-52) women wore dresses and men wore suits to the game and I bet they all were sweating like crazy in Death Valley. She always told the story of traveling down to the Orange bowl for a Clemson victory and the team getting watches. She lived a great life and was always happy, even when she shouldn’t have been. She could find a way to laugh in any situation. Sometimes inappropriately, but what the heck. She could also find creative ways to complain about nearly everything. During Clemson’s 2018-2019 season when TL16 and team were blowing everyone out, she called me and said “these games are boring!” Gotta love it. Anyway. Just felt like getting this out. Gonna miss her. She’s in a better place, God rest her Soul.

So sorry for your loss, TigerCook. You have great memories of her and thank for sharing with us here. My mom also complained about dressing in wool for a September game in Death Valley (circa 1960) - remember the good times and celebrate the life she lived.

My sincere condolences and losing ones Mother, at least for me, seems to be the hardest loss between the two parents.
She lived to the age I hope to reach and thus I feel she lived long..and obviously well, humorously, a Tiger Fan and loved.

Sorry for your loss, but glad you have such wonderful memories of her.
The thing I miss most about my old man is his voice. I don’t have any video or audio recordings and I wish I could hear it again. I’m sure someday I will.

I’m so sorry for your loss. May God give you strength and peace during this difficult time.
My mother passed away in December of 2016 and she probably knew your mother. My mother would have been 90 this year and was working on her Music degree at Converse during the same time your mother was.
They must have been taught the same thing at Converse because many of the traits you mentioned are very familiar to me. ?

Lots of similarity to my story, as my parents met at UGA around 1950, and my Mom also a person of much more heart than sense (she was an artist, passed this ability to me), and the same kind of laughter spurts. Sorry about this loss, it brings back your whole life in front of you, and the loss never goes away, but salve will come. And you remind me of something I read, that "there is no happiness without heart". So your mom had heart, and that is what counts.

Mom was taken from us many years ago. for the longest time, when the family got together, there were always tears, when we spoke of mom. These days, we rarely get together, because we are pretty old ourselves, and the travel is tough, but when we do get together, there are no tears, only laughter, and mostly at moms expense. If she were here, I'm sure she would laugh right along with us. Time has healed the wounds, that and faith in God, that one day we'll see mom again. I'm so sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter what the relationship was like when one of your parents pass, it don't make the pain or the loneliness any easier to accept or deal with, and that is bc you know and understand that you exists only bc of the DNA of both your parents. My prayers are with you and your family, your mother wouldn't want anyone praying for her bc she is with Jesus in Heaven, and there is no better place to be, or a better person to be with than Jesus Christ our lord and savior, and with Jesus we are allowed to sit at the same table with GOD our creator!!!

when we're arguing over football. I'll share one last Clemson story as I found a picture to remind me.
Mom would always watch Clemson games on TV when she could no longer go to games. She had a big(ish) screen TV in her room that was across the room from her bed. She said she could never see the score, but it's okay, she kept her binoculars by the bed.
you can't make this stuff up.

She was definitely Allin to the last. Prayers for you and the family. My Mom passed very suddenly December 17th 1977 just six days after her 71st birthday. Got the news from an aunt about 15 minutes after returning to G'ville from the CU - App St basketball game.
